Acquittal for gossip columnist

Hildegard Schwaninger was fully acquitted by the Zurich District Court of the charge that she had defamed a Winterthur businessman through slander and libel.

The case has been dragging on for years. The district court has already dealt with it for the second time. In August 2012, it sentenced the columnist to a conditional fine for defamation. The verdict was overturned due to a formal error.

At the second attempt, the court has now reached an acquittal, as announced in a press release on Monday. The plaintiff must pay the court costs and pay the other side compensation of more than CHF 10,000. It is not yet clear whether he will take the matter further. The written reasons for the latest verdict are still pending.

In a column in the Tages-Anzeiger newspaper in August 2008, Schwaninger described the entrepreneur as a failed and opaque impostor. He had made a mega bankruptcy by destroying capital. He always had a half-silky lady on each arm. He could no longer enter Switzerland because of illegal activities.

The entrepreneur had demanded a conviction for defamation and a sentence of 100 daily rates of 150 francs. However, the court now followed the defense's request for acquittal. As a gossip columnist, Schwaninger had not written a factual journalistic report. In a gossip column, readers expect linguistic exaggerations. The author had also relied on the in-house lawyer, who had checked the text and classified it as unobjectionable. (SDA)

ADC judging 2014: 7 Gold, 4 Evergreen

The ADC Switzerland has honored the best works of the past year.

Over the course of two days, under the direction of jury president Markus. Over two days, around one hundred of the best Swiss creatives judged works from the past year - together with this year's guest juror, Swiss director and author Dani Levy. After two days of judging, 7 gold, 29 silver and 61 bronze winners were announced. And four evergreens.

The award-winning campaigns are particularly striking: A spectacular campaign that touches, entertains or moves people and thus spreads via social media is particularly successful in advertising terms, according to the ADC press release.

The gold work

Film category: Pro Infirmis "Mannequins" - Jung von Matt/Limmat
The online film about the creation of the disabled mannequins on Bahnhofstrasse is an impressive example of how creative ideas can now be disseminated worldwide via social networks and PR. The film now has over ten million views on YouTube. The campaign with the disabled mannequins and the film were awarded silver in four other categories, making them the main winners of this year's jury.

Promotion category: Swisscom "All eyes on S4" - Heimat advertising agency
At the cross-media event for the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S4, passers-by could win an S4 if they did not take their eyes off the S4 for an hour. The participants were distracted with various crazy activities. The campaign could be followed online on major portals.

Category Posters: Max Shoes "Stunning collection" - Jung von Matt/Limmat
The ADC jury also awarded gold for the amazing and striking image idea and its great, fashionable realization.

Creative Media category: "Days of Hope" - Saatchi & Saatchi
In February 2013, the weather report on television was presented by a homeless person - because no one can explain the cold better than a homeless person. The impressive campaign drew attention to Pastor Sieber's social work in Switzerland. It was part of a European "Days of Hope" initiative.

Category Radio: BMW Motorcycles "Adventure" - Serviceplan Suisse
What terrible things can happen when a motorcycle suddenly breaks down in the middle of a distant country is presented in this radio spot series in an amazing, highly entertaining and relevant way.

Design category: Rotpunkt pharmacy magazine "Hä?" - Studio Marcus Kraft
A completely fresh kind of "pharmacist's booklet": one that is aimed at young people and their needs and questions about their health, and whose design is anything but sickly and old-fashioned.

Category Illustration: Zurich Chamber Orchestra "Fantastic Orchestra" -Havas Worldwide Zurich
Well-known classical works were lavishly illustrated as an amazing orchestra: a feast for the eyes that the jury honored with gold.

The evergreens

Since last year, the ADC has been recognizing excellent campaigns that have been based on the same central idea for at least three years up to the present day and thus demonstrate strategic and conceptual continuity at the highest level.

Switzerland Tourism "Sebi & Paul" - Leo Burnett Switzerland
The Switzerland Tourism campaign with the two rustic mountain men Sebi & Paul was awarded an evergreen. They have been national and international advertising ambassadors for our tourism for years.

Federal Office of Public Health "Love Life" - Havas Worldwide Zurich
With "Love Life", the Federal Office of Public Health first managed to address the topic of "Stop Aids" and later sexually transmitted diseases in a life-affirming, fresh way instead of with a warning finger.

Graubünden "Gian & Giachen" - Jung von Matt/Limmat
The ibexes Gian and Giachen in the Graubünden campaign joke about skiers, tease bikers and also take the mickey out of each other - in commercials, as a travel agency, as a weather app or "Bockcast".

Sunday newspaper "Babushkas" - Y&R Group Switzerland
For more than six years, the Babushka campaign has shown in an amazing way that the Sonntagszeitung gets to the bottom of a wide variety of topics.

All award-winning works can be here be considered.

Top advertisers identify with their TV advertising

For its client Publisuisse, the Ruf Lanz agency demonstrates just how strongly top advertisers identify with their TV commercials.

This is symbolized by the example of Peter Felser, who now bears a striking resemblance to the hero of the award-winning Switzerland Tourism spots of his former agency Spillmann Felser Leo Burnett. The subject appears in the ADC festival magazine Cicero as well as in the advertising trade press.

Responsible at Publisuisse: Reto Burkhalter (Head of Communications), Oliver Hofer (Project Manager Communications). Responsible at Ruf Lanz: Markus Ruf, Danielle Lanz (creative direction), Mario Moosbrugger (art direction), Markus Ruf (text/concept), Sabrina Luck (consulting), Sebastian Durband (consulting management).

Last but not least: Excluded from the Olympics

A Guinness online ad cannot be aired during the Winter Olympics in Sochi—just like one of the female athletes featured in it.

Guinness is not an official sponsor of the Olympics. The beer producer therefore had to remove the online ad featuring biathletes Tracy and Lanny Barnes from its official channels shortly after it was published at the end of January. This is what the Swiss Olympic rules stipulate. Until the end of the Winter Games, only sponsors are now allowed to advertise with the faces of Olympic participants.

The commercial briefly tells the story of an important decision in the twins' lives. One of them has voluntarily given up her participation in Sochi. The other will still be in the race. And Guinness' commercial will probably do the same - not on the company's official channels, but on YouTube. (sis)

Transparency demand after Seco corruption affair

The organization Öffentlichkeitsgesetz.ch accuses the administration of seeking to further curtail the fundamental right to information. It demands the uncompromising implementation of the Freedom of Information Act.

The General Secretaries' Conference (GSK) wants to subject the Public Access Act, which has been in force since 2006, to an extraordinary review. According to a press release from the association, it is inspection units in the administration that want to be exempted from the Public Access Act Publicity law.ch from Saturday.

The corruption affair at the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (Seco) shows how important a well-functioning public disclosure law is, according to the press release. For months, Seco had refused to disclose the private contracts. However, Seco's internal supervisory body did not get to the bottom of the matter. It was only the media that brought the case of corruption to light.

Instead of discussing restrictions to the Public Access Act, the administration should press ahead with implementing the existing law in order to promote the transparency of administrative activities, as envisaged by Parliament, the association demands.
