Editors-in-chief do not believe in the return of the political press

According to the editors-in-chief of leading media companies, political influence on daily newspapers is not on the rise. Despite indications to the contrary, the return of the political press in Switzerland is not on the agenda.

Independence remains a central pillar for journalism, Felix E. Müller, Editor-in-Chief of the NZZ am Sonntag, Res Strehle, Editor-in-Chief of the Tages-Anzeiger, and Markus Somm, Editor-in-Chief of the Basler Zeitung, said in unison at a panel discussion in Zurich on Tuesday. The discussion took place as part of the Epiphany conference of the Association of Swiss Media. A newspaper is allowed to have a political stance. And of course a publisher appoints an editor-in-chief he trusts. But a smart publisher does not interfere in the day-to-day business of journalism. Plurality on an editorial board is enormously important, said Strehle and Somm in unison in response to a corresponding question from moderator Norbert Neininger.

Somm denied that he had ever said that he was Christoph Blocher's deputy. He had never received any instructions from Blocher. For him, diversity of opinion in an editorial office is important - not who is for or against Blocher. All newspapers have a political stance. That is a good thing. Müller made no secret of the fact that he has always held a liberal basic position. That is in line with the NZZ statutes. Somm had recently held talks with the NZZ Board of Directors for the succession to the NZZ's editor-in-chief, but later withdrew. He is a member of the FDP.

For Strehle, who described the political stance of the Tages-Anzeiger as eco-social liberal, the separation of facts and commentary is important. The task of journalism, he said, is to control the powerful. This also applies to the red-green dominated Zurich city council, he said, which is not always very happy about the critical reporting of the Tages-Anzeiger. (SDA)

Aroma: New appearance for Atzmännig gastronomic establishment

Just in time for the 2014/2015 winter season, the Atzmännig Talstation restaurant opened its doors with a new look. In collaboration with local craftsmen, Aroma was responsible for the design, planning, and implementation of the dining areas.

With the new appearance, the traditional restaurant becomes a fresh and inviting magnet for young and old. Restaurant, seminar room incl. terrace and sanitary facilities were visually and technically brought up to date. Surfaces are finished in natural materials such as wood and stone and lovingly furnished with the appropriate equipment. The entire signposting and signaling of the leisure facility was also designed and executed by Aroma.

Press Council reprimands Basler Zeitung

The Swiss Press Council has harshly criticized the *Basler Zeitung*: In a letter to Editor-in-Chief Markus Somm, the council accuses the *BaZ* of systematically withholding the Press Council’s statements.

The Press Council further states that BaZ constantly violates the "Declaration of the Duties and Rights of Journalists" and simply does not respect its readers. The Press Council regrets this state of affairs "in the deepest terms", as it says in the letter dated December 24, which is available to the news agency SDA. It had made public on Tuesday the media portal Klein Report. In its rebuke, the Press Council refers to the preamble to the aforementioned statement. According to this it corresponds to fair reporting to publish at least a short summary of the statements of the press council, which concern the own medium. The Press Council is the complaints authority for questions of media ethics. It has no power to impose sanctions; its opinions and recommendations are merely declaratory in nature. (SDA)

Sara Hildebrand leaves "Glanz & Gloria"

Sara Hildebrand has been hosting «Glanz & Gloria» for four and a half years. She has now decided to switch to a role behind the camera at SRF. Starting in early March 2015, she will join the «Puls» editorial team.

Sara Hildebrand, 27, has been the editor of the people magazine "Glanz & Gloria" since August 2010 and has also created reports as an editor. Previously, the native of eastern Switzerland worked as a presenter at Radio FM1, where she trained as a reporter, radio presenter and editor. She also studied German, history and education and successfully completed her studies at the University of Zurich with a Master of Arts in 2014. She is continuing her education with a Master of Advanced Studies in Secondary and Higher Education.

After four and a half years as presenter of "Glanz & Gloria", Sara Hildebrand is now moving to the health magazine "Puls" as editor. As a former numerus clausus graduate for medical studies, working as an editor at the health magazine is a perfect career fit for her, Hildebrand said in a press release. It would allow her to deepen her interest in medicine and her journalistic skills at the same time.

Martin Boner, Editorial Director of "Glanz & Gloria": "Of course I am reluctant to let Sara Hildebrand go. With her charming manner and charisma, she has shaped and enriched "Glanz & Gloria" in recent years. However, I understand that she wants to expand her journalistic expertise and I am glad that she will remain with SRF as an editor."

Rocket Film: New film production zmitzt in Züri

The trio of producers—Alessandra Angiuli, Kerstin Reulen, and Leonardo Sanfilippo—have started their own business, Rocket Film, in District 4—and are already involved in various film productions right here in Zurich.

Rocket Film was founded in July 2014. A young company, but already with years of experience. After all, Alessandra Angiuli, Kerstin Reulen and Leonardo Sanfilippo have been working together for many years. "We have different talents and strengths that we bring to the team," says Alessandra Angiuli and Kerstin Reulen adds: "This results in a fresh, new and above all unconventional approach for every project. And we can regroup depending on the customer's wishes and the project."

But all three have one thing in common: They know what it takes to produce a high-quality film. In addition to professional collaboration, respect and trust both internally and externally, you also need to have a lot of fun and enjoy what you do. "This is the only way to overcome all the hurdles and deliver a masterpiece," said Leonardo Sanfilippo, the third member of the team, in a statement. Rocket Film's directorial portfolio is impressive: a selection of committed, talented young and experienced directors with different strengths and always with their own unique styles.

The three Rocket filmmakers are well connected in the local advertising market, have access to an international network of filmmakers and all have extensive experience of shooting abroad. And regardless of whether it's a shoot in the garage around the corner or in the remotest corner of the world, whether it's a TV commercial, web film or corporate film, whether classic or innovative: one of the three is personally involved in every project. Sitting at the table, advising, helping, on location, editing and approving. Because their wealth of experience should not be diluted by long decision-making processes. "Leonardo, Alessandra and Kerstin agree: "That's the only way to really rock it.

Swiss media mix up Twitter charts

The Twitter accounts of the Swiss media are growing remarkably fast and are making up places in the German-language Twitter charts of the portal Meedia.de.

"In Switzerland, Twitter seems to be booming" - this is the finding of author Jens Schröder, who has been analyzing all media industry figures for the industry portal Meedia.de since 2008. "For months, various Swiss media have been among the biggest winners in the Twitter charts."

For example, the 20 Minuten account gained 9.1 percent of followers in December. The top-ranked Swiss medium is now in 50th place. The NZZ also has an above-average growth rate of 7.3 percent (54th place), while SRF 3 and SRF News are growing by 10.2 and 10.3 percent respectively (93rd and 95th places). However, Blick made the biggest leap forward: With 11.6 percent more followers in December, the largest paid newspaper climbed from 92nd to 83rd place. The in-house free paper Blick am Abend also increased its followers by 9.5 percent.

Prosieben continues to lead the list with over one million followers, followed by Bild (678,000 followers) and Spiegel Online (612,000). The best-placed Austrian media title is Der Standard in 73rd place. The ranking also includes accounts of TV shows and blogs. (hae)

Velvet: Lucerne gives you the sea of fog

Lucerne Hotels and Lucerne Tourism are launching a winter campaign in collaboration with the Velvet agency to attract more overnight guests from German-speaking Switzerland.

This winter, Lucerne hotels are giving their guests free travel throughout Central Switzerland for stays of two nights or more. For the campaign, Velvet is staging well-known Lucerne landmarks above the sea of fog, so that the Tellpass also takes you high up if there is ever fog in Lucerne - which, of course, is only very rarely the case. The route network includes, for example, a trip to the Rigi or the Titlis. The campaign brings together the advantages of the city of Lucerne in a surprising way, so the mountains of Central Switzerland are within reach, but at the same time guests enjoy the culinary amenities and cultural attractions of a city.

The poster campaign will be present in several cities in German-speaking Switzerland after Christmas and will be supplemented by advertisements and online banners. In addition, there are door hangers for the hotels, which can be hung on the guest rooms or handed out as flyers.
