New Vaud regional newspaper launches on Thursday

One year after "La Presse Nord vaudois" ceased publication, northern Vaud is once again getting its own newspaper.

One year after the discontinuation of "La Presse Nord vaudois", the northern Vaud region will once again have its own newspaper. The twice-weekly "La Région Nord vaudois" will be launched on Thursday, the SDA announced on Wednesday. The newspaper is intended to fill the lack of information caused by the disappearance of "La Presse Nord vaudois", the new publisher Isidore Raposo confirmed a report in the daily newspaper "Le Matin". Although the Edipresse daily "24 Heures" has since published a regional edition for this part of the canton, there is enough room for another title. The newspaper is distributed by subscription and at newsstands and is published on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The start-up budget amounts to over 2 million francs. Ten employees - including three journalists and a photographer - will produce the newspaper.

Thurgau bans advertising for high-proof spirits

In its first reading, the Grand Council of the Canton of Thurgau voted in favor of limiting the advertising ban to high-proof alcoholic beverages.

The Grand Council of the Canton of Thurgau has voted at first reading to restrict the ban on advertising to high-proof alcoholic beverages. Tobacco advertising is also to be restricted. In its draft bill, the cantonal government had proposed a ban on billboard advertising for all alcoholic beverages. The preliminary consultation committee, on the other hand, proposed limiting the ban to drinks containing more than 15% alcohol by volume. The majority of the Council voted in favor of the Commission's version, partly because the domestic wine and fruit-growing industry would have been severely affected by the general ban on alcohol advertising. The next meeting of the Grand Council will decide in which media advertising will no longer be permitted. The decision on the ban on the sale of tobacco products to under-16s is also still on the agenda.

A disappointing February

GEMI A comparison with the previous year shows that the Goldbach Electronic Media Index (GEMI) was unable to pick up in February after a moderate January, with electronic media even losing one index point in February compared to January. Television was able to maintain its January level of 324 index points. The GEMI is based on the data published by Media Focus for advertising investments throughout Switzerland. Since November, the index for the overall market has remained at 166 index points. After an absolute high in December 2005, electronic media also fell back to last November's level with an index of 318 points. TV, with 324 index points, was able to maintain its January level. This also applies to teletext with 153 index points. Radio lost one index point from 250 to 249, while the Internet lost 4 index points from 177 to 173 despite a clear upward trend. (gm)

Michael Preiswerk identified a trend not only in the generally still

pleasing decline in "golden ideas", original works that are, however
were only created for creative competitions. In contrast, the
newly introduced category "Integrated Communication" only in terms of numbers.
Of the 476 works submitted, not a single one received a medal.
Jury chairman Ralf Zilligen put it in a nutshell: "Everyone is talking about
integrated and networked communication, but only a few implement them
in such a way that the specific capabilities of the respective channels
be used appropriately. Integration does not mean that an idea
adapted and declined through all media."

Jury Chairman Michael Conrad drew a positive balance from the
performance show put together by the 276 jury members.
"More important than the people or agencies that did the work
were the work itself," explained Conrad, who has already completed countless
international creative tournaments. He sensed a
high level of expertise, especially in many innovative ideas,
fresh ideas, the extensive use of modern technologies and the often
excellent execution.

The best examples of this were not least gold winners such as the
"Medienwolke" exhibition stand concept for O2, the launch event for the VW

international troupe of artists for the young peer community in three

HandelsZeitung focuses on financial news

The HandelsZeitung is expanding its financial reporting and strengthening its editorial collaboration with The Wall Street Journal.

HandelsZeitung is expanding its financial reporting and intensifying its editorial cooperation with the Wall Street Journal. As part of a comprehensive relaunch, the business newspaper will be published from May 3, 2006 with a more compact structure, expanded content and a new design. In future, the main paper will be published as a 2-bundle newspaper instead of the previous four-bundle format. The first bundle will be dedicated to companies and management, the second bundle to the financial sector and the stock exchange, as announced by HandelsZeitung. Each issue will also contain articles from the Wall Street Journal in German, which will be visible through the co-branding of the two newspapers. The HandelsZeitung editorial team has been delivering Swiss business news in English to wsj.com every day since mid-October 2005.
Topic-specific special supplements will supplement the first two volumes of the new HandelsZeitung. The stock market section and the stock price pages will also be expanded in cooperation with the Frankfurter Vwd Group. Following the relaunch of the HandelsZeitung, the publishing group will be redesigning its online activities. In future, they will offer daily business and financial information on the web and for mobile applications.
Katja Hösli, owner of Mediadesign in Gais, is responsible for the new newspaper design. She has already designed the new layouts for the financial magazines Schweizer Bank, Schweizer Versicherung and Private Banking in recent months. The advertising campaign for the new HandelsZeitung is being handled by the Jung von Matt/Limmat agency.

The pay-TV channel Premiere is considering lowering subscription prices in order to prevent subscription losses following the loss of the Bundesliga rights to Arena. As reported by Handelsblatt, Premiere is taking the new competition seriously and intends to announce a response in the form of offers and prices. However, no exact price models are yet available. According to CEO Georg Kofler, Premiere has also not yet completely given up hope of being able to broadcast the Bundesliga after all - via cooperation with Deutsche Telekom and via a streaming offer. Arena, which has the rights for the next three Bundesliga seasons in its pocket, will launch its own pay service on August 11.

Mach Basic and Mach Consumer are now published every six months, and although in homeopathic doses, the much-vaunted economic upturn seems to be gradually reaching the battered print media. The reader market remains stable. Wemf AG für Werbemedienforschung's Mach Basic data, published every six months for the first time, shows that the majority of the most important Swiss print media are showing an upward trend - with a few exceptions.20 Minuten cracks the millionSo the commuter newspaper 20 Minuten continues its rise. The paper has increased its net reach by 9.7 percent and is now read by almost 1.04 million people. This means that the paper has exceeded the one million reader mark. The significant increase in readership is due to the launch of the new regional edition for St. Gallen last June, which is reflected in the statistics for the first time. All but three of the largest paid daily newspapers have increased their readership. Ringier's emancipated tabloid Blick, for example, has managed to overcome the ongoing decline in readership for the time being and has gained around 10,000 readers (now 7,27,000). The Aargauer Zeitung (267,000) and the conglomerate Mittelland Zeitung (39,000) continued to record upward trends. The Südostschweiz Group (255000) and the Neue Luzerner Zeitung (297000) are also among the winners.

Finally, the Berner Zeitung - the Bund no longer appears separately in the statistics - also lost 2000 readers (403,000).
Wemf reports almost unchanged figures for the Basler Zeitung (210000), with a slight increase in net reach of 0.3 percent.

Le Temps (125,000) and Le Matin (363,000) achieved the most growth with 10,000 readers each, followed by 24 Heures (273,000; +7,000) and the Tribune de Genève (177,000; +2,000). 24 Heures launched four new split editions from April 2005, which are considered as one title in the survey. Corriere del Ticino and La Regione Ticino also increased slightly in Ticino.
Sunday press continues to pick up The sun is shining for the Sunday press across the board, with the exception of the southernmost canton. With 998,000 readers (+10000), SonntagsBlick is the most-read Sunday title, followed by SonntagsZeitung (+11,000) and NZZ am Sonntag (+9,000). In French-speaking Switzerland, Le Matin dimanche also gained 15,000 readers (606,000), while in Ticino Il Caffè della domenica lost 5,000 readers and even lost 4.1 percent net reach. Il Mattino della domenica also lost a total of 1000 readers (87000).
Among the business titles, only Bilanz stands out negatively in the statistics, but only because the paper doubled its publication to fortnightly in February 2005. While the Tamedia title Finanz und Wirtschaft remained unchanged, Cash (284,000) increased its readership by 11,000 and HandelsZeitung (14,000) by 1,000. In French-speaking Switzerland, the same applies to Bilan as to its sister paper Bilanz, while the daily business paper L'Agéfi is obviously losing readers (not only the editor-in-chief) (15,000; -4,000).
Weekly press with plusBecause the magazine (643,000) has also been included in the Berner Zeitung, Basler Zeitung and Solothurner Tagblatt since February 2005, its readership has practically grown by 114,000 people, which is why, according to Wemf, comparisons with the previous year are not permitted for methodological reasons. Nevertheless, NZZ Folio still has more readers (66,000) with an increase of 10,000. Facts and Weltwoche both recorded a slight increase of 1,000 readers each. The weekly newspaper WOZ, on the other hand, continues to lose readers (107000; -6000). The major magazines also made gains: Schweizer Illustrierte gained 12,000 readers (1054,000) and Schweizer Familie 4000 (71,000). There were significant changes in two cases: On the one hand, Das Beste from Reader's Digest lost 22000 readers (400000) and lost 5.3 percent net reach. On the other hand, only 235,000 readers were interested in Film imnächst (-23,000 readers) with a 9.2 percent drop in net reach. The statistics also point to special features. In two cases, for example, the name change of a title had a negative impact on reader interest. Until May, the health tip was still called Puls-Tipp. The name change cost the title 8000 readers (633000). The same thing happened on a larger scale to the TV magazine TVstar, known as TR7 until the end of January 2005: the magazine lost 45,000 readers (375,000) and 10.7 percent of its net reach.
New: Half-year figuresThe Mach Basic and Mach Consumer readership and consumption study,
which Wemf publishes every year, will in future be published every six months in March and September. The first half-year results of both studies have been available since March 28. This is Wemf's response to the increasing importance of up-to-date performance data in a competitive and fast-moving market. This can already be seen in the current edition of Mach Basic, which includes 12 new titles and title combinations. In future, it will be possible to react more quickly to changes in the reader and advertising market. No methodological changes have been made, and it is still possible to compare readership trends and reach with previous issues. The results continue to be based on a sample of 12 months, with the six oldest months being replaced by new ones. The current publication from March 2006 therefore covers the period from October 2004 to September 2005 with the same number of interviews (over 23700).
