AZ Medien Group with best result in 10-year history

At 19.5 million Swiss francs, AZ Medien AG significantly increased its 2006 operating income (before financial results) by 35 percent compared with the previous year.

At 19.5 million Swiss francs, AZ Medien AG significantly increased its 2006 operating result (before financial income) by 35 percent compared to the previous year. The operating cash flow amounted to CHF 32 million and corresponds to 18 percent of the consolidated operating income of CHF 178.1 million, according to an AZ Medien press release.
The operating result of CHF 19.5 million is attributable to the successful development of all business divisions. While the newspapers only partially met expectations, according to AZ Medien, all other business areas were very successful. In particular, magazine publishing, AT Buchverlag, Radio Argovia and printing and distribution contributed to the record result.

At CHF 97.5 million, the largest share (55%) of operating income came from the Newspapers division. Compared to the previous year (CHF 100.4 million), operating income was two percent lower. The Aargauer Zeitung and the Limmattaler Tagblatt were able to maintain their circulation and stabilize their readership figures.

According to AZ Medien, the first year of cooperation with Publicitas as advertising marketer has developed satisfactorily: The volume of advertisements on the national market has developed well, as has the job market. However, the volume of advertisements from the local markets remained below expectations. The weekly newspapers Aargauer Woche and LIZ Limmat Zeitung have not yet achieved their targets in the advertising market.

The magazines combined in AZ Fachverlage AG (Kochen, Natürlich, Fit for Life, Technica, Bâtitech, Elektrotechnik, Mega Link, HK-Gebäudetechnik), AT Buchverlag and Meissner Bücher contributed to the pleasing development of the operating result with an increase in operating income of CHF 3 million to CHF 43.2 million. Meissner Bücher AG was sold to the Thalia Group in spring 2007 with retroactive effect from January 1.

The electronic media (Radio Argovia, Tele M1, Tele Tell) made a substantial contribution to the Group result and the losses of the regional television stations were further reduced. Radio Argovia even achieved a top result.

For 2007, the AZ Medien Group expects that a recovery in the labor market will lead to further growth in job advertisements, with a slight increase in commercial advertising. In addition, the cross-media business should continue to develop and the AZ Medien Group intends to expand its position in this market segment. Key investments in the current financial year are the development and publication of the MZ Sunday edition from September.

The battle between Frank A. Meyer and Christoph Mörgeli, who accused Meyer of using "Nazi vocabulary" in his column, has been settled. According to Ringier, Meyer has waived his claim for personal protection against Mörgeli after the National Council's Legal Affairs Committee decided not to waive the National Council's parliamentary immunity.
Frank A. Meyer comments as follows: "I note that Parliament is creating a dichotomy among journalists: namely those who can publish anything with impunity and professional journalists who remain subject to the law. This inequality is neither democratic nor justifiable under the rule of law."

Last but not least: McDonald's image cultivation

McDonald's Switzerland is further expanding its involvement as the main sponsor of the "Switzerland on wheels" mobility project.

McDonald's Switzerland is expanding its involvement as the main sponsor of the "Switzerland on wheels" mobility project. From May to October, anyone who likes to exercise can borrow bicycles, electric bikes, scooters and skateboards free of charge in Zurich, Bern, Thun, Lausanne and now also in Renens. Unemployed people and asylum seekers look after the rental stations and thus have something to do.
According to a statement from McDonald's Suisse, a balanced lifestyle requires a healthy diet as well as sufficient exercise. McDonald's wants to take responsibility and motivate people to do more sport and exercise in their everyday lives.

Are the days when McDonald's stood for unhealthy eating over? It seems that image cultivation has not quite caught on. There is an article on Presseportal.ch in which the American crime novelist Donna Leon talks about the importance of food. The headline begins with a quote: "I have never, I swear, been to a McDonald's."

Euro RSCG Zurich in the fight against Aids

Partner mediation sites are booming. Euro RSCG uses these target group-relevant platforms as part of the Federal Office of Public Health's "Love Life Stop Aids" campaign.

Partner mediation sites are booming. Euro RSCG uses these target group-relevant platforms as part of the "Love Life Stop Aids" campaign of the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH).
For example, if a female user logs into a flirt chat, a man sitting on the toilet suddenly appears on the interface. However, the inappropriate disturbance is immediately resolved: to ensure that the past does not interfere with the new relationship, you should check your risk profile with regard to HIV. One click takes you straight to the specially developed website check-your-love-life.ch. A theme has also been developed for both heterosexual and gay men. These are all taken from the print campaign already visible in advertisements and on billboards, according to Euro RSCG Zurich.

However, the agency is not only taking virtual action against the deadly disease. To make the use of condoms more pleasurable, the creative minds at Euro RSCG Zurich have come up with something special. Highly erotic excerpts from relevant novels were printed on the packaging. With the discreet hint that the arousal is maintained even when the condom is put on.
