Swiss advertising takes a stand against alcohol advertising bans

In connection with the National Alcohol Program (NPA) initiated by the Federal Council, Schweizer Werbung has issued a three-page statement opposing any ban on alcohol advertising. The problem of the risk of addiction should be tackled at its root causes, and bans are a way of combating symptoms.

As a member of the committee "for a sensible alcohol policy", Schweizer Werbung (SW) took part in the consultation process for the National Alcohol Program (NPA). With this program, the Federal Office of Public Health is to formulate a new alcohol policy on behalf of the Federal Council. In a three-page statement published on Tuesday, Schweizer Werbung rejects any ban on advertising in this context. The association is of the opinion that the problem of the risk of addiction should be tackled at its root causes. Bans would be tantamount to uselessly combating symptoms. The main thrust of the alcohol policy proposed by Schweizer Werbung is the personal responsibility of the individual, which should be strengthened and supported by behavioral prevention. The association is also calling for the enforcement of existing legal regulations to be ensured, particularly in the area of youth protection, before new regulations are created. With regard to the responsibility of the advertising industry in alcohol advertising, Schweizer Werbung refers to the code of conduct that the alcohol industry has agreed with the Swiss Commission on Fair Trading in the area of commercial communication.

ZurichTokyo: At Autop, the boss washes himself

Just in time for the opening of another car wash at Zurich’s Tiefenbrunnen, the ZurichTokio agency created a series of print ads. They poke fun at the clichés of the Gold Coast.

Just in time for the opening of another Autop car wash in Zurich-Tiefenbrunnen, the agency ZürichTokio created print motifs. They are intended to appeal to the Gold Coast residents among the commuters. For the idea, ZürichTokio made tongue-in-cheek use of all the existing clichés about Zurich's Gold Coast: the subject shows two unemployed domestic workers and the headline that even the bosses now want to wash their cars themselves. This is because Autop serves cüpli and prosciutto on the second floor, after which the car washers bring the keys to the clean car. Responsible at Autop:

The Biel-based agency Erdmannpeisker is bringing winter closer for BLS: It showcases how winter sports gems line the railway company’s traditional route.

The Biel-based agency Erdmannpeisker brings winter closer for BLS. Since December 12, 2007, the railroad company has not only been running through the NRLA tunnel, but also on the traditional home route via the old Lötschberg tunnel. According to the press release, winter sports enthusiasts will find one gem after another along this route. The BLS winter campaign by Erdmannpeisker therefore demonstrates how close rail and piste can be to each other. The four subjects, which are used as posters, railboards and advertisements, show typical winter sports scenes at first glance. On closer inspection, you can see how the tracks in the fresh snow merge seamlessly into snow-covered tracks. Incidentally, even more winter wonders can be found in the new excursion brochure, which was also created by Erdmannpeisker.

Luegmol.ch wants to become the Swiss YouTube

A Swiss video portal aims to compete with YouTube and become a «central media platform»: On Luegmol.ch, users will be able to find not only user-generated clips but also programs from Swiss media outlets. However, partnerships with media companies are still in the early stages of development.

A Swiss video portal wants to compete with YouTube and become a "central media platform": On Luegmol.ch, users will be able to find homemade clips as well as the numerous video contributions and broadcasts of "as many Swiss media as possible", according to a press release issued on Tuesday. According to its creators, Luegmol.ch is to become a "general, publisher-independent portal". The company behind it is Netzone Internet Services in Unterentfelden, Aargau. The company had already launched a web television for Aargau last August (see ). This has now mutated into a channel on the new portal, as can be seen from the information on Aargau.tv. "We have not yet concluded any concrete cooperation agreements with media companies. We are currently in the process of establishing appropriate collaborations," said Guido Würsch from Netzone. They are hoping for regional media in particular. "I don't know whether SF will be involved. But we would be delighted if they were". According to Würsch, the portal offers regional broadcasters the advantage of being able to distribute their content beyond the broadcasting area.
In addition to contributions from media professionals, users will be able to upload video contributions themselves on Luegmol.ch, probably along the lines of YouTube. Regular providers can create a so-called channel with their own logo. The portal is to be financed by advertisers who place banner ads either in the vicinity of an individual channel or on the front page of Luegmol.ch. Content providers can also distribute advertising messages before, after and during the video. This creates a "simple but sensible win-win situation", Netzone continued.
Würsch told Werbewoche that he could not yet gauge the interest of the advertising industry: "We first have to create content before we market Luegmol.ch. We can't offer the advertising industry an empty platform". However, Luegmol.ch still needs to grow to the size of YouTube: On Tuesday afternoon, there were only 151 videos to be seen.

Friede Springer prevails in inheritance dispute

At Axel Springer, everything remains the same. Majority shareholder Friede Springer has won the legal battle over the shares in the media conglomerate that she inherited. The dispute arose from inconsistencies in the publishing house founder’s last will and testament.

Everything remains the same at Axel Springer. Majority shareholder Friede Springer has won the legal dispute over the shares she inherited in the media group. The Hanseatic Higher Regional Court ruled on Tuesday that an agreement reached after the death of publisher Axel Caesar Springer regarding the distribution of the inheritance is valid. The judges thus dismissed the appeal of his grandson Axel Sven, who wanted to be awarded a larger share of the shares, against the background of inconsistencies regarding the last will and testament of the founder of the publishing house, Axel Caesar Springer. Shortly before his death in 1985, he changed his will, but it was no longer formally recorded. In the new version, the grandson only received 5 percent of the inheritance instead of 25 percent, while the fifth wife Friede received 70 percent instead of 50 percent. The inheritance consisted of 25 percent of all shares in the publishing house. Although grandson Alex Sven agreed to the change to the will in a notarized deed at the time, he contested it in 2002 on the grounds that he was unable to cope with the decision at the time due to his personal situation.
Friede Springer now holds more than 50 percent of the company. Axel Springer AG publishes the Bild newspaper, the daily newspaper Die Welt and the television magazine Hörzu, among others.

Job cuts at the Blick sports editorial office

On Tuesday, the moment of truth arrived for the approximately 50-member Blick sports editorial team regarding job cuts. Six employees are affected by the cuts. At Blick Online, however, the media company is creating four new positions in the sports editorial department. The EQ agency, which has provided journalistic content for the sports section on Blick.ch for years, will no longer be on board as of April 1.

In November, Ringier announced job cuts at Blick. On Tuesday, the moment of truth struck for the 50-strong Blick sports editorial team: six employees have to go, which will be implemented with three early retirements and three redundancies. According to Ringier spokesman Marco Castellaneta, some of these positions will be filled again. He provided the following information on the reasons for the changes, which are now referred to in Ringier jargon as "downsizing, restructuring and rebuilding": "The changes are part of a program to optimize costs and ensure optimal staffing at Blick." A social plan will be implemented for the employees affected by the redundancies. In return, the media company is creating four new jobs in the Blick Online sports editorial team. Digital expansion seems to be the order of the day at Ringier, but with new heads. In any case, the Blick bosses are not moving the redundant print editorial staff to the online area: "The requirements of an online job and a job in print are very different," comments Castellaneta. Another change: the EQ agency, which provided journalistic content for the sports section on Blick.ch for many years, will no longer be on board from April 1. As Castellaneta explained when asked by Werbewoche, the content previously maintained by EQ will be taken over by Blick.ch's sports editorial team from this date.

Agency at the airport calls for XTND to call back

The Apple reseller XTND had actually planned to send out an iPhone to attract new customers. However, since the iPhone isn't available yet, it opted for a slightly less exciting model instead.

The Eastern Swiss Apple dealer and supplier XTND has sent a circular letter to printers, advertising agencies and architecture firms to draw their attention to its services. The idea was to send a cell phone along with the mailing, which the recipients could use to call back. As an Apple retailer, XTND would have liked to have sent an iPhone, as the agency responsible for the shipment announced at the airport. However, as this was not yet officially available in Switzerland, a less exciting model was used. XTND has been responsible for shipping since December 2007:
