For all those who are not satisfied with the TV coverage areas put out to tender by the federal government, there is a silver lining on the horizon: the Leuenberger department is not ruling out certain changes - but it will be a while before these are implemented. "The awarding of the license and then the start of broadcasting with the new licenses will take place according to the tendered areas. There should be no illusions," explained Bakom spokesperson Bernhard Bürki at the request of Werbewoche. Afterwards, the federal government will examine whether adjustments are necessary. The Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications could make minor changes on its own. Major changes would require the approval of the entire Federal Council. Dissatisfaction has been stirring for some time in the districts in the canton of Schwyz known as "Ausserschwyz". The Federal Office of Communications has assigned this region to the Central Switzerland TV area. However, the popular local broadcaster Tele Züri is applying for the Zurich-North-Eastern Switzerland area. If it wins the bid, it will no longer be allowed to broadcast in Ausserschwyz. Last fall, according to the Zürichsee-Zeitung, 3141 people signed the petition "Tele Züri für die Ausserschwyz" (Tele Züri for Ausserschwyz), and on Saturday there was even a demonstration for the station in Rapperswil. According to the Sonntag newspaper, around 500 people took part.
If Tele Züri is not awarded a license, it may continue to broadcast in the disputed areas of Schwyz: According to the new Radio and Television Act (RTVA), broadcasters who do not claim fee money are only obliged to register. However, in addition to the fees, they also lose the guarantee that they will be broadcast via the cable network. This would probably not be too much of a problem for Tele Züri: it is unlikely that the network operators would remove the large regional broadcaster from their network.
