Azerion DOOH DACH: Vienna becomes the control center

Azerion is significantly expanding its DOOH activities and establishing a central competence center for digital out-of-home in the entire DACH region in Vienna. The Austrian capital will thus become the operational and strategic product and partner management hub of the German-speaking DOOH unit within the Azerion Group. Philipp Hengl will take over as Director Digital Out-of-Home DACH. He will be responsible for cross-national partner and product development in Austria, Germany and Switzerland and will report directly to Alexander Leitner, Managing Director of Azerion Austria.

Alexander Leitner comments on the move: «With the DOOH competence center in Vienna, we are taking a clear strategic step for the DACH region. In recent years, Vienna has established itself as a location for innovation in the digital out-of-home advertising market. The Azerion Austria team is one of the pioneers in programmatic DOOH and helped shape key technological developments at an early stage. This combination of experience, technology and reach forms the basis of our current market position.»

Austria as a scalable model for success

The starting point for the DACH expansion is the programmatic DOOH model established in Austria. Over the past five years, Philipp Hengl and his team are said to have developed the most comprehensive programmatic DOOH network in the country - including a fully connected publisher network, SSP integration and real-time campaign management. A key recent milestone is the exclusive programmatic partnership with Vienna Airport.

At the same time, the company's own DOOH infrastructure was greatly expanded: According to Azerion Austria, it now operates more than 150 screens in three core formats - city screens, roadside LEDs and large-scale iconic video walls, including in Vienna's Prater. Supplemented by a publisher network, a total of 5,300 digital screens throughout Austria should enable a net reach of more than 64% of the advertising-relevant target group (aged 14 and over).

Technology, data and programmatic as Azerion-DOOH-DACH growth drivers

In addition to the expansion of the infrastructure, the technological basis was also systematically developed further - particularly in the areas of programmatic playout, data-based audience measurement and scalable campaign management via partner networks. The combination of own spaces, data intelligence and programmatic connectivity should form the basis for further expansion in the DACH region.

Philipp Hengl states: «Together with a strong team, we have built a scalable programmatic DOOH model in Austria. This setup is now the basis for our expansion throughout the DACH region. Our aim is to consistently develop DOOH further in a data-driven way - with AI-supported target group logic, dynamic creative control and contextual triggers. Vienna will thus become the central hub for digital out-of-home in the DACH region.»

DACH expansion based on a proven model

With the new competence center in Vienna, Azerion is pursuing the goal of transferring the DOOH model established in Austria to other markets - especially Germany. The focus is on the expansion of programmatic DOOH structures, the increased use of AI-supported targeting, the development of new special forms of advertising and the increasing convergence of digital out-of-home and other digital media.

Andreas Stietzel, Managing Director DACH at Azerion, emphasizes the strategic implications: «What has been created in Austria is a resilient and scalable model that has proven itself in practice. Our aim now is to establish this strength throughout the DACH region in order to exploit cross-border synergies and position Azerion as one of the leading providers of programmatic DOOH in Europe.»

Philipp Hengl has been working in digital out-of-home advertising and media innovation for many years. Prior to his current role at Azerion, he was Head of Product & Partner Management DOOH at Azerion Austria and Goldbach Austria as well as Head of Digital & Innovation Unit at Gewista.
