SW against the advertising bans demanded by the SGK
The National Council's Health Commission (SGK) is calling on the Federal Council to restrict advertising for chips and candy that is explicitly aimed at children. SW Swiss Advertising firmly rejects this proposal.
This is because the industry concerned has already taken self-regulatory measures, SW said in a statement on Friday. Bans are not a solution and ultimately distract from the responsibility of parents. According to the SGK's proposal, advertising should be banned in particular if the advertised food contains too much sugar, salt or saturated fatty acids. According to the SGK, this is based on the Swiss Pledge initiative of the Swiss food industry, which no longer wants advertising aimed at children under the age of 12.
According to the press release, such legislative measures would only restrict the freedom of movement of the economy. They would also increase the administrative burden for companies and authorities alike and place an unnecessary burden on our economy. In this specific case, a ban on advertising would above all relieve parents who leave their children unsupervised in front of the television out of convenience of their responsibility.
