The Year of Advertising: Submission deadline extended

The submission deadline for the book *The Year of Advertising* has been extended. Agencies, companies, and institutions have until October 30 to submit their communication campaigns.

Condition: The measures were used or are to be used in Germany, Austria or Switzerland in 2013. For Thomas Rempen, The Year of Advertising occupies a position between the Art Directors Club (ADC) competition and the German Association of Communication Agencies (GWA): "The competition is a chronicle and at the same time depicts great ideas and the integrative aspects of communication. This is exactly what The Year of Advertising does better than the other two competitions."

Why competitions are becoming increasingly important

According to the press release, the Year of Advertising is not just about creation, but about the entire process. Peter Wippermann, trend researcher and co-editor, explains: "How do companies organize conversations with consumers? How is the announcement of products changing? We try to understand all of this and, of course, evaluate it." For him, competitions are much more important today than they used to be. "They are constantly taking place online. You see what other people are doing and talk about it."

The year of advertising can be digital

The third of the editors is Anette Scholz: "I'm looking forward to more digital submissions," says the professor of digital product design at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle. And if it comes to that, then her calculation works out. "To the outside world, The Year of Advertising doesn't stand for expertise in the field of interactive applications. I convince decision-makers in multimedia agencies of this expertise. They have us less on their radar than traditional agencies."
