Last but not least: around 10 percent of online retail flows into advertising

On average, one out of every ten euros in revenue generated by German online retailers is spent on advertising. Four percent of online store operators invest more than 30 percent of their revenue in advertising.

Three quarters of the store operators surveyed reinvest up to ten percent of their generated turnover in advertising. 41 percent of respondents spend between one and five percent of their turnover on advertising. In the range of six to ten percent, the figure is 33 percent. The proportion of store operators who invest more than 30 percent in advertising is four percent. This is the result of an internet survey conducted by the Trusted Shops store operator blog. www.shopbetreiber-blog.de - among more than 500 store operators. They were asked about the proportion of costs for Google AdWords, price comparison sites, banners, ads, affiliate programs and other forms of online advertising.
Across all the values surveyed, the average advertising expenditure is just under ten percent. Industry experts confirm the result based on practical experience. Especially in online retail, sales-oriented advertising, such as search engine marketing SEM and search engine optimization SEO, is still the most frequently used instrument. Thanks to the performance-oriented remuneration models (cost-per-click) in this area, store operators take a limited risk in the development of their advertising costs.
