Light beer for (almost) everyone
On Saturday, "ZwoAcht" from Falken has a big promotional appearance. Reason: FCZ fans are only allowed to drink light beer.

"Tastes like a lager, but has less alcohol and around 1/3 fewer calories," writes the Falken brewery in our own webshop. At least the calorie count is right. But it doesn't really taste like a lager. That's why light beer often has a hard time with consumers and rarely finds a place in the shopping basket. Coop, for example, stocks exactly one type of light beer in its larger stores, Feldschlösschen 2.4, even though most Swiss breweries offer a light version.
A police-ordered promotional measure comes in handy. Next Saturday, Falken is likely to make the light beer sales of the year. The reason: FC Schaffhausen will be visited by FC Zurich in the Challenge League. The club that has just been relegated and wants to be promoted again straight away. The match is not only almost sold out with 4000-5000 spectators expected, but has also been declared a "high-risk match" by the Schaffhausen police. Such matches require a permit from the city and city police.
The match takes place. According to the local weekly newspaper Schaffhauser AZ, however, FC Schaffhausen has been imposed conditions. The most notable: only beer with a maximum of 2.8% alcohol by volume may be sold in the guest sector. In other words, everyone is allowed to drink normal beer, except the FCZ fans. Fortunately, the local brewery has a compatible brew in its range.
This means that the targeted "ZwoAcht" annual turnover is probably already secured by the end of August - and the somewhat mixed mood of the numerous FCZ fans who will be attending is probably also secured. But perhaps some Zurich supporters will discover a love of light beer. Because it doesn't taste that bad. It's just a matter of getting used to it and adjusting. And it's best not to complain, because: A complete ban on alcohol would also be available in Schaffhausen as a requirement for high-risk matches. Whether the entire stadium would then have to drink "Falken Alkoholfrei" ("A pleasant beer-drinking pleasure with a fine sweetness and good hop bitterness"), or whether the "normal" fans would at least be allowed to fall back on "ZwoAcht", is unfortunately not specified by the Schaffhausen AZ.
