Zurich Zoo advertises smart
The Zurich Zoo is now turning to moving images, literally breathing life into the animal stars of its well-known poster campaigns. In collaboration with the digital agency Dreifive, the zoo produced commercials for digital out-of-home (DOOH) advertising—using a standard smartphone.

Probably the most colorful inhabitant of Zurich Zoo, the panther chameleon, slowly strides through the picture: Eyes turned alternately in all directions, it balances on one of the barrier ropes of the Masoala rainforest and immediately immerses everyone in the perspective of the zoo visitor. As close as possible to the real zoo experience: this is how Zurich Zoo's new commercials present themselves. The resulting content is broadcast in portrait and landscape format on eBoards and ePanels and promotes the Masoala Rainforest as well as the Zoo Family Annual Pass. In addition, further footage was produced for future campaigns.
Smartphone films in the advertising industry: direct, close and experience-oriented
Smartphone technology was deliberately used for the new campaign. On the one hand, the animals are not disturbed by the small, handy cameras. On the other hand, the distance between humans and animals can be reduced to a minimum through the use of smartphones. The special visual language of smartphone shots is used here: One that radiates special closeness and authenticity, is direct and experience-oriented.
It is not the technology that is decisive, but how it is handled
By opting for smartphone shots, Zurich Zoo has its finger on the pulse and meets the demands of the smartphone generation. "Not every client is convinced from the start by the idea of shooting commercials with a smartphone," knows Sandro Kohler, Art Director Motion Picture at Dreifive. "We are therefore very grateful to clients like Zurich Zoo for their courage to try out innovations and make them mainstream." Dreifive has been pioneering smartphone commercial production for almost four years, successfully serving digital natives in their very own language.
