Lucerne poster designer Erich Brechbühl has been one of the most prominent voices in contemporary poster design for many years. His work is characterized by typographic reduction, conceptual clarity and a strong presence in the public space - qualities that regularly earn him international recognition.

Successes at the Swiss Out of Home Awards

In 2024 and 2025, Brechbühl was awarded numerous national and international design prizes. At the Swiss Out of Home Awards 2025, he received two silver prizes in the Culture category for the "Klub Kegelbahn" poster and Digital Out of Home for the "Innerschweizer Filmpreis 2025". This was followed by an Honorable Mention for the poster "Expo U60" at the B.I. International Poster Art Biennale in Seoul (South Korea) and a Jury Commendation at the INTL International Poster Competition in Glasgow (Scotland).

International awards 2024

Brechbühl was already successful in several international competitions in 2024. The International Poster Triennial in Toyama (Japan) awarded bronze to two of his works - "Collectomania" and "Weltformat". Further awards went to the theater poster "The cosmonaut's last message to the woman he once loved in the former Soviet Union", which was awarded Best Poster in Armenia and received recognition in Ecuador and Moscow. Brechbühl won gold at the Ecuador Poster Bienal for the animated poster for the 2023 Central Switzerland Film Prize.

"What interests me about posters is not the decorative aspect, but their presence in the public space. It has to catch the eye in seconds. Ideally with a clear idea and a slight irritation that sticks in the mind," says Erich Brechbühl, explaining his design philosophy.

Brechbühl has been running his graphic design studio in Lucerne since 2003. His posters are regularly exhibited at international biennials and documented in specialist publications.
