Volg Children's Carrier: When a Donut Goes Diving

The Zurich-based agency EDiii has developed a children’s shopping bag for Volg that showcases children’s drawings. The designs come from a drawing contest held in the customer magazine «hey.» Over the next three years, the bag will be available at approximately 600 Volg village stores.
The Volg Baby Carrier: From Favorite Product to Icon
Under the theme «Turn a Product into a Character,» Volg invited children to bring their favorite products to life. The result was a diving donut, an ice cream superhero, a tomato on a skateboard, a pineapple with a cape, and a bag of magic paprika chips.
EDiii developed a design system based on this that gives each drawing its own space while simultaneously uniting them into a cohesive whole. Each figure is assigned its own tile featuring the child’s first name, age, and place of residence. Colorful patterned areas in Volg tones structure the composition and tie together the different drawing styles.

A child's drawing is still just a child's drawing
EDiii processed each drawing individually for flexographic printing. The colored pencil strokes and paper textures remain visible, and the colors are clear and vibrant. The entire layout was adapted to the bag’s die-cut pattern and prepared for production.
In the future, these young artists will see their own characters featured on a shopping bag at the Volg store in their village.

«Fast, straightforward, and carefully thought out,» says Irmgard Faltner, Communications/Advertising at Volg, about the collaboration with EDiii. The agency was responsible for concept development, creative direction, graphic design, image editing, final artwork, and prepress.
