WhatsApp co-founder Brian Acton leaves the company

One of WhatsApp's two co-founders, Brian Acton, is leaving the messaging service. He plans to launch a foundation at the intersection of philanthropy, technology, and communication, Acton announced on his Facebook profile early Wednesday morning.

Acton and company CEO Jan Koum had founded WhatsApp about eight years ago. Acton became chief technology officer. The acquisition of WhatsApp in 2014 for around $22 billion made both of them multi-billionaires.

Facebook is now increasingly working on earning money with WhatsApp. For example, WhatsApp could charge companies money in the future if they use the service to communicate with their customers (Werbewoche.ch reported). Koum had always affirmed that advertising, as the usual business model for Facebook services, did not fit WhatsApp. (SDA)
