Migros relies on its own payment app instead of Twint
Almost two years after the launch of the Twint payment app, it is still not accepted by Migros, Switzerland's largest retailer.

Instead, Migros is relying on its own Migros app, as a spokesperson told Handelszeitung. Twint is to be integrated into this app. Migros' app has already been installed by 3.5 million people, the Migros spokesperson says. Customers can use it to pay in stores if they have linked the app to a credit card account or a Migros Bank bank account.
And that's where Migros sees room for more banks. "The Postcard will be integrated into the Migros app together with Twint as an additional means of payment," says Migros spokesman Luzi Weber. Direct acceptance of the Twint app at the Migros checkout, on the other hand, is not a priority. They are "in constant exchange with Twint" in this regard and have "nothing new to communicate," they simply say.
For payment expert Andreas Dietrich of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Migros is a critical element in the spread of Twint. "If the largest retailer doesn't accept the payment method, that means a big hurdle." Many consumers won't commit to a payment method until it's accepted at all major stores, Dietrich said.
