How coupons are used for purchase abandonment

E-COMMERCE Trying to entice customers who abandon their carts with coupons or discounts can be the right strategy to convince them to make a purchase just before they leave the site. But many online bargain hunters have caught on to this and are seizing the opportunity. Just under a quarter of users intentionally abandon their online purchases in order to receive a coupon or discount offer. This is the finding of a study by Connexity. The study was conducted among 4,ooo online shoppers in North America in September 2015. Here, 53% speculate on shipping costs being waived, ideally free shipping with no minimum purchase value (45%). Discounts are by far the most popular vouchers among customers on the move: 33 percent of purchase abandoners hope for a discount on the item or on the entire order.Online retailers should take into account criteria such as the value of the shopping cart or expensive shipping costs in their retargeting plan when awarding discounts. In addition, they should not immediately offer free shipping, but should first test discounts on shipping costs. This gives them a good chance of maintaining their margins:
