The Museum of Communication in Bern is due to open on August 19 following a major renovation. It took five years to plan and one year to implement. The biggest change is that a visit to the museum will become a personal encounter. Hosts will be on hand throughout the permanent exhibition to invite visitors to talk to them, answer questions and provide background information. Museum director Jacqueline Strauss is thus venturing a new format that has not yet been seen in Switzerland. " The hosts' tasks also include working at the cash desk, supervising the museum and carrying out regular research to keep the museum up to date.

The exhibition extends over 2000 square meters. Visitors can expect a meeting place with 66 chairs on the forecourt and three floors with themes such as memories, the laboratory of everyday life, digitalization and visions of the future. The arrangement of the exhibition according to themes rather than chronology is new. Temporary exhibitions are also held on an additional floor.

Interactive installations match the motto of the exhibition: "said Strauss.

The planning and realization of the exhibition cost the museum around 11 million francs. Support came from the Canton of Bern, Kultur Stadt Bern, Haslerstiftung, Ernst Göhner Stiftung, Prohelvetia, Prof. Otto Beisheim-Stiftung, Die Mobiliar, AEK Bank, Ericsson and Gebäudeversicherung Bern.

On Saturday, August 19, 2017, the new Museum of Communication will open its doors with a party from 2 p.m. to midnight. Admission is free of charge. The program includes a cinema, a rooftop bar, a special concert by the Polstergruppe, vintage photo shoots, an animated film studio and a children's program. Postbuses run from Bern railroad station to the museum. The regular admission price is CHF 15 for adults, with a reduced price of CHF 10 and CHF 5 for children. (pd / sda / aks)
