René Lüchinger becomes Editor-in-Chief of Blick
René Lüchinger will become the new editor-in-chief of Blick. He will take over the position on January 1, 2014. Andreas Dietrich will serve as deputy editor-in-chief.
Andrea Bleicher, who has led Blick on an interim basis since February 2013, has decided to leave the company. Rolf Cavalli, editor-in-chief of Blick.ch and chairman of the editors-in-chief in the Blick newsroom, is also leaving the company at his own request. The timing is still open. Ringier wrote this in a communiqué on Tuesday.
The new editor-in-chief of Blick is René Lüchinger. The 54-year-old, former editor-in-chief of the news magazine Facts (1998 to 2000) as well as editor-in-chief of the business magazine Bilanz (2003 to 2007) and presenter of Bilanz Talk on SF2, is today an author of non-fiction books ("The Case of Swissair") and biographies ("The Jacobs Way - Klaus J. Jacobs", "Stephan Schmidheiny", in December the biography of former Federal Councillor Elisabeth Kopp will be published), and partner of his own corporate publishing agency Lüchinger Publishing, whose shares he will hand over when he takes up his new position. Lüchinger will take over as editor-in-chief of Blick at the beginning of 2014.
Andreas Dietrich will become the new deputy editor-in-chief of Blick as of January 1, 2014. Dietrich was a member of the Tages-Anzeiger's editorial team until the end of 2012, as well as journalistic director of the Tages-Anzeiger iPad edition. Today, he works as a freelance journalist, copywriter and concept developer at the communications agency Ammann, Brunner & Krobath. Previous positions include head of copy at Facts, editor at NZZ Folio and Das Magazin, and deputy editor-in-chief of Weltwoche.
Andrea Bleicher, who had headed Blick on an interim basis since the beginning of February 2013, is leaving the company. She is devoting herself to a new professional challenge, according to the Ringier release. Bleicher had been head of the news department since 2007 and deputy editor-in-chief of Blick from fall 2012.
Until René Lüchinger and Andreas Dietrich take over, editorial responsibility for Blick will be assumed by a team of four with immediate effect: Felix Bingesser, Head of Sports at Blick Group, Dominik Hug, Head of People at Blick Group, Thomas Ley, Deputy Editor-in-Chief Blick, and Fabian Zürcher, Page Maker Blick/Blick.ch.
Rolf Cavalli, editor-in-chief of Blick.ch and chairman of the editors-in-chief in the newsroom, is leaving the Blick Group by agreement. He wants to take on a new challenge after 16 years at Ringier, Ringier writes in the statement. Cavalli has been with the company since 1996, and was head of news and member of the editorial board at SonntagsBlick from 1999. On February 1, 2003, he became deputy editor-in-chief of Blick and took over as interim editor-in-chief in March 2007. Since April 1, 2009, Cavalli has been editor-in-chief of Blick.ch, and from November 2012 he led SonntagsBlick on an interim basis. Since February 2013, he has been chairman of the editors-in-chief in the newsroom as well as head of all digital channels of the Blick Group.
Marc Walder, CEO of Ringier AG: "With René Lüchinger, we are gaining an extremely experienced, versatile and extremely well-connected editor-in-chief for Blick. The newsroom of the Blick Group will be further strengthened in the coming months. This journalistic offensive underscores that Ringier continues to invest heavily in journalism despite consistent diversification into entertainment and digital businesses. Andrea Bleicher has successfully managed the news department since 2007, transferred it to the newsroom in 2010 and continuously developed it structurally. In addition, she has led Blick for six months as interim Editor-in-Chief with great commitment. I would like to express my sincere thanks to Andrea Bleicher for her great and convincing work and regret her decision to leave the company. In Rolf Cavalli, we are leaving a journalist who has played a major role in shaping the Blick Group over many years in a wide range of key positions. For this, I thank him sincerely."
Peter Hossli, until now a writer in the newsroom of the Blick Group and correspondent in the U.S. for 12 years, will become chief writer and head of the Blick Group's new pool of writers as of November 1.
