Premiere fun week
With "People", the celebrity magazine of Schweizer Illustrierte (SI) in the Swiss window of Sat 1, and the youth program "Morph" produced by Eqal Visual Productions
Finally, however, the legendary Plakanda summer party was once again on the agenda - a really big party. There are advertising party visitors who look forward to the poster supplier's invitation like snow kings long in advance. After all, they come up with a few ideas every year to make sure the guests don't get bored. Fiesta Cubana con los Plakandos or "Cuba libre" was the motto this year. Christian Dür from the Visualix event agency set up a backdrop for the two Plakanda bosses Beat Roeschlin and Beat Sulzer on the rowing club grounds at Mythenquai that immediately transported you to the Caribbean. Elegant vintage cars, dancers, street hairdressers, shoeshine boys, fruit vendors, fiery rhythms, mojito and Cuba libre were combined to create a perfectly staged show. The guests were hardly able to stop being amazed, and even the weather was kind to the revelers. The big thunderstorm only arrived shortly before midnight, but then chased the guests home relatively suddenly.
On Friday, ADC and the agency Matter & Partner invited guests to the water for their events in weather that was no longer at all like that of a bathing establishment. The board and table cards for the Frauenbadi invited guests to the Captain's Dinner, with the individual tables bearing the names of ocean liners. Host Daniel Matter allowed himself the joke of putting his guests on some rather obscure ships - a brief digression into the recent history of Christian seafaring is permitted here.
The only ship on Matter's list that you can still really take a vacation on today was the Crystal Symphonie, built in 1995. The Hong Kong Express does not carry passengers, but goods - it is one of the world's largest container ships. The Gorch Fock, a barque with a square-rigged foremast and mainmast as well as a gaff-rigged mizzen with a topsail, has been cruising the world's oceans as a sail training ship in the service of the German Navy for exactly 45 years. And now it's getting really big. The Britannic, the sister ship of the Titanic, ran aground on a mine less than a year after her maiden voyage in 1916, capsized and sank in just 55 minutes. She had never carried a paying passenger in her life, but was only used as a hospital ship. In 1956, shortly after leaving New York, the Andrea Doria rammed the Swedish passenger ship Stockholm. Since then, the barge has only served as a home for fish. The Queen Elizabeth, on the other hand, capsized in 1972 after a fire in Hong Kong harbour and had to be scrapped. And finally, the former SS America, under the name American Star, ran aground off Fuerteventura in 1994 and broke in two. The ship's ruins can still be viewed there today.
Fortunately, there were no such accidents at the Matter & Partner festival and, according to reports, no one completely drowned in the Frauenbadi. Fortunately, the planks also held up a mile further down the lake, at the ADC in Badi Enge, and the sheets remained tight.
Beat Fritsch in a Cuban outfit. The beautiful straw hats were given to every guest at the Plakanda party - if they arrived early enough - as a gift; and the mojitos, which were not in short supply, were also available right at the entrance. Once again, the Plakanda party proved to be a great event. But there were other celebrations last week too. From TV premiere parties to the rainy Badifest, there was pretty much the whole range.

Cooling viewing pleasure
Audience Research: The "summer of the century" caused TV ratings to drop—but not among all target groups.
The two previous years already clearly demonstrate the existence of the summer slump. While usage during the day is at a uniformly low level in cool and hot months, the gap widens after work. In a normal summer, prime-time reach is 28%, while in the colder months of the year, over 35% of the population aged three and over switch on their television.
For this year's record summer, the analysis of Telecontrol data shows an even deeper summer slump (see chart). More devices were switched off between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. than in previous years, with coverage amounting to just 25%.
The heat is keeping a verifiable number of potential viewers away from television. However, the deviation from a normal summer is not spectacular. It is reasonable to assume that young people in particular prefer to use the beautiful summer evenings for outdoor activities rather than staying indoors. To test this hypothesis, the comparison between cold and warm months was also carried out for the target group of 15 to 34-year-olds.
The surprise: Despite the heat, the separately determined target group does not watch less television than in the "cooler" summer months! The curve for 2003 remains only slightly below that of the two previous years in prime time. The record temperatures even seem to have driven younger viewers in front of the screen: On the previous evening between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., the reach is around two percent higher. "The TV lounge as a refuge from the sweltering heat? It's possible ...", muses IP research manager Giordano Giordani. In any case, media planners can rest easy: TV as an advertising medium did not melt away even in the summer of the century.
In the summer of the century in 2003, only slightly more TV sets were switched off during prime time compared to 2002 and 2001.
The target group of 15 to 34-year-olds, which is particularly keenly observed by advertisers, watched no less television this summer.

The final curtain falls twice
Theater Marketing II: FCBLK is promoting Dünsser/Kukla’s final season at Zurich’s Theater Neumarkt with a striking farewell campaign.
Before the new director Wolfgang Reiter takes over, the ensemble joins forces for a furioso finale. Kukla's innovative spatial concept makes it possible to present a veritable festival with eleven new productions, one revival and four projects.
"Searching for happiness", the motto of the season, also stands for the divided theater hall: shared happiness is double happiness. In line with the farewell, the house agency FCB Leutenegger Krüll stages a sophisticated show in three acts: from the announcement of the half-price subscription (hence the halved
titles of the pieces) to the divided hall (a black and white play with the furnishings) to the actual farewell - in the color of mourning.
A lot of theater for the money at the end.
