K-Tip: Truth requirement not violated

According to the Swiss Press Council, the consumer magazine K-Tipp did not violate the truth requirement with an article entitled "Pensionskassen: Billion-Bschiss" did not violate the truth requirement enshrined in the "Declaration of the Duties and Rights of Journalists".

An error in one of the objectionable points of the reporting is not sufficient to justify a violation of the "Declaration", writes the Press Council in its statement published on Monday. The title "Billion-Bschiss" was undoubtedly an exaggeration, writes the Press Council. In the article itself the K-Tipp explained then however relatively in detail, why it came to this estimate. The exaggeration of facts in headlines and titles is professionally permissible if a fact is thereby brought to the point and a nuance or specification takes place at the latest in the subtitle or at the beginning of the text, writes the Press Council. The title chosen by K-Tipp is not objectionable based on this practice.

Further statement "not to be criticized

The K-Tipp statement objected to by the complainant, according to which the pension funds put "billions into their own pockets", is also not objectionable in the view of the Press Council from the point of view of the duty of truth. In the article it is explained in detail that only a small part of the return generated with the money of the savers is passed on to the insured persons and savers and the largest part flows into the reserves of the pension fund. The statement that the pension funds have had more and more reserves in recent years and decades is also unobjectionable.

Two court cases were described under the title of a text box "Pension funds skimp - courts correct". In its statement to the Press Council, K-Tipp admitted an error: In one case, interest had been paid on a credit balance "too low" and not "not at all," as written in the article. In the opinion of the Press Council, this difference is hardly significant in the context of the article as a whole. (SDA)

M&C Saatchi launches first Nescafé machine

Last fall, M&C Saatchi Geneva won the Nescafé account for all promotions and BTL activities in Switzerland through a pitch. The agency has now launched its first promotion.

The aim of the mandate was to find a common thread for all campaigns based on the international positioning "It all starts with a Nescafé". An exclusive Coop promotion for the launch of a major new product has just been launched: Europe's first machine for making instant coffee. The principle of the promotion is simple: consumers receive the machine free of charge with codes collected on the products.

The idea of the promotion focuses on the joy of rediscovering its Nescafé with various new tasting variants. M&C Saatchi implemented the launch campaign and all POS material via displays, leporellos, totems and communication with the distribution channels, packaging and social networks. The promotion has only just begun, but is already proving very popular with Nescafé consumers. According to the press release, Nestlé Switzerland has already received numerous orders for machines.

Interactive video book on "Tatort Matterhorn"

The drama surrounding the first ascent of the Matterhorn 150 years ago can now be experienced interactively: The Zurich-based studio Docmine has produced a video book for tablets using footage from the SRF Highlight «Tatort Matterhorn.».

The video book "Tatort Matterhorn" (Crime Scene Matterhorn), which accompanies the TV broadcast, uses film sequences, interactive graphics and in-depth texts to tell the story of the drama that took place 150 years ago during the first ascent of the most prominent peak in the Alps. This gives the lavishly produced two-part documentary "Tatort Matterhorn" a further narrative dimension.

This video book is the third collaboration between Docmine and Swiss radio and television. It began with "The Swiss", also a docufiction. The video book "Carl Lutz - The Forgotten Hero" about the Swiss diplomat Carl Lutz, who saved more than 50,000 Jews from the Holocaust in Budapest, turned out to be an international success. The video book "Carl Lutz" received the award for the best German eBook at the last Frankfurt Book Fair and was voted "Best of App Store 2014" by Apple (Werbewoche.ch reported).

Last but not least: Creative Lotto

A campaign from Brazil shows that lottery tickets can also be filled out creatively. Chances of winning: still the same.

In the lottery, the probability of all possible combinations is always the same. The unrealistic combination 1,2,3,4,5,6 is therefore drawn just as often as the combination 8, 17, 25, 32, 37, 41, which smells like a six.

The only reason why you shouldn't tick 1,2,3,4,5,6 is that if the combinations and patterns are too simple, there is a good chance that another bright mind will come up with the same "idea". Any winnings would therefore have to be shared, thirded or whasawed. Annoying, if you ever win.

Nevertheless, Almap BBDO in Brazil shows that you can be a little more creative when filling out the tickets. For the Panamericana School of Art and Design, the agency not only sent out originally filled out tickets for the 80 million euro New Year's lottery to journalists, but also called for a lottery ticket design contest (in this lottery, six numbers out of 60 have to be chosen and a ticket contains three betting options).

In an online competition, participants designed their tickets to their heart's content - in the hope of winning a prize that would also change their lives. And possibly even more lasting than a few lottery millions: A 100 percent scholarship for school. The following gentleman enjoyed this with his Charlie Chaplin creation:

Unbenannt-6_67

Interesting: the entries included not only several fours, but also one five. However, the case movie leaves open whether the ticket was printed out and redeemed. 16.2 million francs are currently waiting for a winner in the Swiss Lotto jackpot - get started and create your own. Winning the millions with a drawing would definitely have more style than the whole run-of-the-mill lottery. (hae)

Measures demanded against advertising calls

Various consumer organizations are declaring war on unwanted advertising calls. They are calling on telecoms providers to respect the asterisk entry in the telephone directory. If nothing is done by the end of April, the law will have to be tightened.

Despite the ban on advertising and marketing for connections with an asterisk entry in the telephone directory in force since 2012, numerous consumers continue to be harassed by advertising callers. The threat of a prison sentence of up to three years does not seem to deter telephone advertisers. Consumer advocates, including the French-speaking Swiss organization FRC, are once again drawing attention to this abuse. In most cases, it is extremely difficult to identify the caller. The call centers of the troublemakers are often located abroad - even if a Swiss number usually lights up on the customer's display, the FRC and its sister organizations announced on Monday.

The solution to the problem has been on the table for some time. Telecom providers have been able to use technical means to block illegal calls for months without any problems. Nevertheless, nothing is being done by the major network operators, write the consumer advocates. This gives the impression that telecoms providers are not taking their customers' criticism seriously.

Thousands of complaints

The State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (Seco) takes a less gloomy view of the current situation. The law, which came into force in 2012, is bearing fruit: unsolicited advertising calls and other unfair business practices have led to over 12,000 complaints to the federal authorities within two years, it said in May last year. In this context, Seco filed 62 complaints. In addition, a total of 121 companies were warned. According to Seco, they were made aware of the breach of the law in writing. Around half of these companies have changed their criticized business conduct. (SDA)

IDFX reorganizes itself

The advertising agency IDFX is expanding its executive team. Effective immediately, owner and ASW President Michael Waldvogel will no longer be the sole head of the Zurich-based agency.

With Creative Director Thomas Jakob, he now has a deputy at his side who not only supports Waldvogel in creative processes, but also gives him the opportunity to concentrate even more on advising and supporting his clients, as detailed in a press release. "Especially now, in idfx's growth phase, this is essential," says Michael Waldvogel.

Thomas Jakob is no stranger to the advertising industry. For over 30 years, he worked in various national and international agencies, including Wiener Deville, DDB and JWT. He was also the owner of the advertising agency Jakob + Partner, most recently known as "Der Werbemacher." Together, Michael Waldvogel and Thomas Jakob want to continue the agency's successful growth. Waldvogel is convinced: "With the new organization, we have created the ideal conditions for this!"

Imprint receives new presidium

Journalists Christian Campiche and Vito Robbiani have been elected to lead Impressum, Switzerland’s largest association for media professionals. The two were elected on Friday at the delegates’ meeting in Brissago, TI.

Campiche succeeds Daniel Suter, who is stepping down as president after four years for health reasons. Robbiani will be the new vice president. Campiche, 67, wrote during his career for the newspaper La Liberté, among others, and was previously vice president of Impressum. The new president wants to promote the unity of the language regions, as he told the SDA news agency. Today, he said, the industry is fragmented and lacks a common culture. For his part, Robbiani, a multimedia journalist, wants to push for a new collective labor agreement (CLA) for German-speaking Switzerland and Ticino. In contrast to French-speaking Switzerland, these two language regions have not had a CLA since 2004. (SDA)
