Samuel Schmid criticizes media coverage of the army

According to Defense Minister Samuel Schmid, media coverage of the Swiss Army contains too many inaccurate reports and too much deliberate disregard for the facts.

Defence Minister Samuel Schmid criticizes the media coverage of the Swiss Armed Forces. There are too many inaccurate reports and too much deliberate refusal to acknowledge the facts. In their research on the army, the media are too often guided by preconceived theses and try to confirm them, Schmid continued. This kind of thesis journalism can be found far into the so-called serious media. Schmid also emphasized the importance of the communication departments in his department. The work of the communication departments is directly linked to the acceptance of the armed forces among the population. Internal communication is also important. A well-informed person understands the purpose of their work and subsequently identifies more strongly with the institution they work for, explained Schmid.

SF2: Record ratings thanks to Swiss national team

The match between the Swiss national soccer team and the Togo national team was watched by 933,300 viewers at home on SF2—and in the second half, the number even exceeded one million.

The match between the Swiss football team and Togo was watched by 933,300 viewers at home on SF2 - and by over a million viewers during the second half. This was announced on Tuesday by Publica Data, a subsidiary of the Swiss radio and television company. This is the second-highest figure since the start of the World Cup: only Switzerland's match against France attracted more viewers (over 1.4 million), but it took place later in the evening than yesterday's match. However, the exceptionally high market share of 74.6% for the Togo-Switzerland match exceeded that of the Switzerland-France match. As already reported, the Telecontrol ratings do not take into account the so-called "public viewing" on the numerous big screens or office use. The latter was probably higher than usual yesterday, as the match kicked off at 3 p.m. and many people watched the game in the office. The five most-watched broadcasts of the World CupFrance - Switzerland: 1,473,000 people (MA: 72.4%)

New city center magazine for Bern

With "Bärn!", Bern is getting a new official city center magazine aimed at modern, open-minded people who enjoy spending money.

With "Bärn!", Bern is getting a new official city center magazine. "Bärn!" is aimed at modern, open-minded people who like to consume. In editorial terms, the magazine is not intended to compete with the existing range of information, but to complement it, according to a press release. The magazine is supported by the city centre organization BERNcity and other Bernese institutions. Financially, however, the magazine should stand on its own two feet. "Bärn!" aims to position itself as an independent, informative print product with a ratio of approx. 1/3 advertisements to 2/3 editorial, Bern-related articles. In addition to the shopping, gastronomy, tourism and services sections, the magazine will also contain reports, pages for children and young people as well as information from various Bernese institutions. The magazine will be published in A4 format with 36-44 pages for the first time on September 21 with a print run of 100,000 copies. Of these, 85,000 copies will be distributed to letterboxes in the Bernese agglomerations and 15,000 copies will be placed in city center stores and other strategically important locations. "Bärn!" will be produced 6 times a year. In the run-up to this, the people of Berne are to choose the first "Bärn!" cover photo themselves from a widely advertised photo competition.

"Das Magazin" auctions off mega posters of the Swiss World Cup footballers

Starting immediately, «Das Magazin» is auctioning off autographed posters of individual players from the Swiss national soccer team on eBay.ch.

As of now, "Das Magazin" is auctioning off the hand-signed posters of the individual football players of the Swiss national team on eBay.ch. The World Cup players photographed by Christian Grund for "Das Magazin" (2 x 1.6 meters) are currently still hanging together in the form of a giant poster on the façade of Tamedia at Werdstrasse 21 in Zurich. On Saturday, July 1 at 10 a.m., the auction of the footballer portraits will end on eBay.ch. The mega-poster will then be cut up and the auctioned posters will be sent to their new owners. After the auction, it will be announced which player has brought in the most money. So far, the number of bids is still low and the prices are affordable. The proceeds of the auction will now go to the promotion of young talent in Swiss football.

SF1 focuses on business and knowledge

From April 2007, Schweizer Fernsehen (SF) will be showing a business program on the first channel on Monday evenings and a knowledge magazine on Thursdays. Friday evenings are reserved for family programs and a new soap is also being planned.

From April 2007, Schweizer Fernsehen (SF) will be showing a business program on the first channel on Monday evenings and a knowledge magazine on Thursdays. Friday evenings will also have a new motto "SF bi de Lüt". From 2008, a new fictional in-house production will take over the "Lüthi und Blanc" slot, as the soap will come to an end in summer 2007.
As SF announced on Tuesday, the strategy of "two programs on two channels" has been successfully pursued for two years. In the fall of 2004, Wednesday evening was redesigned and in March 2005, the new early evening was introduced on the first channel. Since then, viewer numbers have developed positively, according to the press release. Market shares in the first five months of 2006 are well above the previous year's figures. The planned changes to the main evening program now represent the second step in the optimization process.
More economy
In August 2006, Swiss television will broadcast the short program "SF Börse" from Monday to Friday shortly before the main edition of the Tagesschau on SF1. The new business magazine will follow in April 2007 and will occupy Monday evenings from 22.20 for half an hour. According to the press release, the aim is to give a broad audience access to economic topics.
More knowledge
Instead of the biweekly knowledge magazine MTW, SF1 will broadcast a weekly knowledge magazine on Thursdays from 9 p.m. from April. The spectrum will be very broad in order to appeal to all those interested in the basics of life and the wonders of this world. Documentaries will remain in the program on Thursdays. However, the travel magazine "einfachluxuriös" will be removed from the program for the time being due to a lack of airtime.
More family
From April 2007, the motto "SF bi de Lüt" will dominate the Friday evening program on SF1 from 8 pm. SF will visit viewers and take the audience's pulse with playful elements, according to the press release. From April, "Quer" will also be revamped and will focus on issues relating to relationships and parenting.
SF is also planning a new soap - but not until 2008, as the soap "Lüthi und Blanc" is coming to an end in early summer 2007. SF wants to continue to offer the audience its own fictional productions, but the financial framework conditions are decisive, the press release continues.

More frequencies for digital terrestrial broadcasting in Switzerland

At the Regional Radio Conference of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the Swiss negotiating delegation was able to significantly increase the number of national television coverage areas.

At the Regional Radiocommunication Conference of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the Swiss negotiating delegation was able to significantly increase the number of national coverages for television. Switzerland will now be allocated 14 complete national coverages: seven for digital terrestrial television and seven for digital terrestrial radio. With one coverage for digital television, at least four television channels can be broadcast in the current quality of analog channels. Previously, Switzerland had only four complete national coverages for analog television, and analog and digital broadcasting systems will have to coexist for some time. During this transitional phase, Switzerland will have to negotiate the gradual implementation of the digital plan with neighboring countries, as many of the digital frequencies planned for Switzerland are still occupied by analog broadcasters abroad. The new frequency plan replaces the one from 1961, which was designed for analog television. Over 1000 delegates from 104 countries in Europe, Africa and the Middle East worked out the new frequency plan for digital terrestrial broadcasting in Geneva.

Cannes Media: Jung von Matt/Limmat honored with Gold Lions

Following the impressive achievement of securing six shortlist spots, the creative team at Jung von Matt won a Golden Lion and took second place in the Media Agency of the Year competition. *Werbewoche* extends its congratulations!

1466 works competed against each other at this year's advertising festival, 30 of which came from Switzerland. After the great success of the six shortlisted entries, the luck was even better: the creative minds on the Limmat convinced the jury with their idea of demonstrating the size of a Mini Cooper in a very vivid way. The effect they achieved with the mini-models, which were installed at the entrances and exits to Zurich's main railway station, convinced the jury and scored so many points that Jung von Matt/Limmat was awarded the honor of second place in the Media Agency of the Year competition. A great success, as this is the first time that a Swiss agency has been ranked in the Agency of the Year competition in Cannes.
The Media Grand Prix was won by Universal McCann Sidney with the campaign for Axe (Lynx), which is also listed as a contender for a Titanium Lion on Leo Burnett's Cannes Prediction reel. Universal McCann Sidney was also voted Media Agency of the Year. In second place alongside Jung von Matt/Limmat were Ogilvy & Mather Santiago and Dentsu Tokyo.

In the "Bilanz" of June 20, 2006, the Swiss business magazine once again presents the 175 most powerful women and men in business, politics and society. In the Most Powerful Media category, the editors-in-chief of well-known newspapers once again occupy the top places this year. At the very top, however, is a publisher: Michael Ringier. The ranking:Michael Ringier, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ringier (new) Peter Hartmeier, Editor-in-Chief of "Tages-Anzeiger" (2005: 3) Peter Rothenbühler, Editor-in-Chief "Le Matin" (6) Andreas Durisch, Editor-in-Chief "SonntagsZeitung" and "Facts" (12) Werner De Schepper, Editor-in-Chief "Blick" (2) Roger Schawinski, Managing Director Sat 1 (new)Hanspeter Lebrument, Publisher "Südostschweiz", President Swiss Press Association (9)Armin Walpen, Director General SRG SSR (new)Pierre Lamunière, Publisher Edipresse (4)Ingrid Delterne, Director of Swiss Television (8)
Ueli Haldimann, Editor-in-Chief of Swiss Television (10)Alongside Michael Ringier, who launched two innovative projects with "Heute" and "Cash Daily", and Roger Schawinski, who is one of the most successful Swiss media managers abroad and has increased Sat 1's market share, Andreas Durisch is one of the rising stars of the year with his dual role as Editor-in-Chief. In 2005, former NZZ editor-in-chief Hugo Bütler was at the top of the podium. Those relegated include Werner De Schepper, 5th place (2005: 2nd) and Pierre Lamunière, 4th place (2005: 9th). For the first time, "Bilanz" also lists the most powerful opinion leaders separately from the media category. In first place is Ringier publicist Frank A. Meyer, closely followed by publicist Roger de Weck. In the politics category, Doris Leuthard won the race. Leuthard is proof that personalities with a strong media presence automatically receive a power bonus. Victor Schmid, member of the Bilanz jury and Senior Partner at the consultancy firm Hirzel.Neef.Schmid, explains that the Aargau native masters media appearances like hardly anyone else.
