Bakom went too far with black screeners

According to a report by the SDA, the Federal Office of Communications (Bakom) seized the television set during an unannounced search of the premises. The set should not have been seized.

The Federal Office of Communications (Bakom) confiscated the television set during an unannounced house search, according to a statement from SDA. The device should not have been confiscated. In May, OFCOM carried out a search at the home of a man who had not registered his television set with the Billag fee collection agency. An operational television was found. This was confiscated as evidence, but left with the owner.
The man appealed to the Federal Criminal Court, which has now partially ruled in his favor. The confiscation of the TV set was disproportionate. A visual inspection and a record of the presence of the device were sufficient evidence. As the person concerned had not objected to the content or form of the record, it was not clear why the television set had to be made available as evidence, the court ruled. The confiscation should be revoked.

Last but not least: You write German

Eastern Europe is—as everyone knows by now—cheap. That’s reason enough for the Süddeutsche Zeitung to consider relocating its entire online editorial staff to Prague.

Everyone knows that the European East is cheap. This applies just as much to imported goods as it does to labor, to vacation trips, and - as wicked tongues claim - also to the women there, or at least to their blond hair. Now the publishing industry has also discovered this generalization and, in the course of globalization, has also concocted a lively strategy for the Süddeutsche Zeitung. The strategy is to relocate the entire online editorial department to Prague. Because apparently the German language is cheaper there, too.

Cheaper, but perhaps not trustworthy after all. Because in the East, people are known to rely on fakes. And so the project was called off in September after ten journalists had already been recruited and put through their paces for a week in Munich. Now the SonntagsZeitung is asking questions about the reasons for the failure of the outsourcing plans. Was it for image reasons? Was the quality of the applicants not sufficient? The costs could hardly have been the killer argument, because the wage level of the journalists' guild in Prague is not even half as high as that in Germany, three hours away by car. Did they even back down from breaking a taboo? But perhaps the "leading Internet portal among national newspapers" simply did not want to take responsibility for the fact that the word "national" would have had to be reconsidered in the next Duden revision of the German language.
