Milch Ruf Lanz didn't take Lovely to the butcher. After switching agencies, the dairy cow made her first film in the jungle. The Swiss Milk Producers (SMP) see their advertising mascot Lovely as "far from being milked dry". Following the change of agency from Advico Young & Rubicam to Ruf Lanz, the good animal is therefore still playing the leading role in a new milk campaign. Following a competitive presentation in summer 2006, the milk producers decided to work with the creative agency Ruf Lanz. For 13 years, Lovely was considered one of the best cows in the Advico Young & Rubicam stable, where she was invented in 1993. Now AY&R no longer wanted to pitch. But the SMP remembered the old farmer's adage: "Never change
a winning cow." Saving Lovely from the slaughterhouse was therefore one of the mandatory requirements for the pitch. But even without this premise, Ruf Lanz would have shown themselves to be animal lovers. "You don't voluntarily give up such a strong popular figure. As an advertising medium, Lovely represents real capital. We now want to use this with fresh ideas," explains Markus Ruf.
The first TV commercial featuring the new Lovely can now be seen. The cow is no longer just the basic body for a cut-out animation. The Fleckvieh has a naturalistic appearance and is also placed in a real environment. Ruf Lanz works with the basic idea that milk "makes you strong and keeps your drinkers in shape".
Heroes have a secretSuch powers are of course also popular with heroes. The idea: every child knows the heroes from movies and books. And yet all these heroes are surrounded by a secret. How can they remain so strong over many decades? The new milk campaign reveals: It's the good Swiss milk that keeps them strong.
In the new adventure, the famous jungle man swings on his vine through the dense jungle to Switzerland to milk Lovely. And to secretly fortify himself with her milk. In the final scene, Lovely herself demonstrates that milk makes you strong: she swings through the picture on a liana even more casually than the jungle man.
For the first time, Lovely is not only allowed to perform her tricks in the commercial, but is also milked for real and the milk is drunk with relish.
"The aim of the commercial is to reinforce the positive image of milk," explains Martin Rüst, Head of Advertising at Swiss Milk Producers. Subsequent posters will communicate changing nutritional messages around the themes "Milk gives strong bones" and "Milk is an essential nutritional factor for healthy development in children and young people". These statements are scientifically proven. Only promises of salvation may still not be made according to a court case.
In terms of figures, the consumption of liquid milk in Switzerland has been "stagnating for years". The market for modified drinks or mixed milk drinks and yogurt is growing.
According to Ruf Lanz, the jungle man is particularly suitable for the start of the campaign because he is a nature lover who loves the animal world.
Other heroes are already buzzing around in people's heads, but of course they won't be revealed just yet. Roger Federer is not intended to be a milk drinker. Although he would be an ideal hero, he has already signed up for Emmi.
The commercial was shot by Markenfilm (Switzerland) under the direction of Rick Lenzing in New Zealand, because not only was the real jungle to be found there, but also the right weather in December.
