Search engine giant Google is once again facing competition. A group of former Google employees launched the search engine on Monday. According to its own information, it searches more than 120 billion Internet pages for search words. That is more than Google, the operators announced. The search results should also be more accurate. The results are not presented in lists, but in the form of short content details. The name of the new site comes from the Gaelic word "Cuil", which means "knowledge". According to its operators, the new search engine offers greater privacy protection than its competitors. The search queries of individual users are not archived, so they leave no trace on the web.

The online dating service Partnerwinner.ch brings together people who would otherwise never meet. In a new image campaign, the Zurich-based advertising agency Meyer Werbung uses clear images to illustrate this fact, playing with extremes. The posters show couples that could hardly be more different: an orthodox Jew with a devout Muslim woman, a Catholic priest with a provocative Lolita-type young lady and a skinhead with a dark-skinned woman. They all present themselves in deep harmony thanks to Partnerwinner.ch. The advertising message of this sensational campaign is that love knows no boundaries. According to a press release from Meyer Werbung, all the models were surprisingly easy to recruit - except for the orthodox Jew. So agency owner Thomas Meyer, himself of Jewish descent, had a beard added without further ado. The three subjects can be seen for two weeks from July 28 in Zurich, Bern and Basel and will also be used as a print campaign in all Tamedia titles without restriction.Responsible at Partnerwinner.ch: Christoph Lüscher.

A few months after the editor-in-chief position at Spiegel was filled, the managing director of the publishing house is also changing: the previous publishing director Mario Frank is stepping down at the end of the year. His successor is 47-year-old Ove Saffe.

A few months after the appointment of a new editor-in-chief, the managing director of the Spiegel publishing house is also changing: the previous publishing director Mario Frank is stepping down at the end of the year, as the German news magazine announced on Friday. The new managing director will be 47-year-old Ove Saffe. He has been publishing director of the Stern Group at Gruner+Jahr since 2004. He already worked at Spiegel-Verlag from 1996 to 2000, most recently as Head of Sales Marketing. In April, Frank lost the confidence of the so-called Mitarbeiter KG, which holds 50.5 percent of Spiegel. Gruner+Jahr, minority owner of the news magazine, subsequently backed Frank, but has now apparently had to give in. According to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, there is a good chance that the change at the top of the publishing house will take place before the announced date.

Schweizer Illustrierte is discovering its green fingers: the magazine plans to launch a new supplement in the fall. SI Gruen is to enrich the Swiss press landscape as a green lifestyle magazine. SI Gruen will report on all aspects of the current "green lifestyle" trend in a fun and credible way, writes the publishing house Ringier in a press release. The target audience is the so-called "LOHAS" (Lifestyle of Health and Sustainability), i.e. people who combine enjoyment, health, luxury, joie de vivre and responsibility. "LOHAS" are just as ecologically minded, enlightened and opinionated as they are affluent and therefore a good target audience for "green advertising", Ringier continues.
SI Gruen will be included in Schweizer Illustrierte for the first time on October 27. Four to six issues are planned for 2009. The magazine was developed by a small team led by SI publishing director Urs Heller.
The Beobachter and Profile Publishing have also announced similar publications. The Beobachter is planning an independent monthly magazine. The launch date is not yet known. Profile Publishing is different: the publisher is launching the title Ecolife at the end of August. Under the leadership of Editor-in-Chief Paul Stierlie, the magazine will focus on the environment, the economy and society. Stierli said in June that the aim is to show that sustainability is not only possible by doing without.

Publicis shows the first works for the Swiss

At the end of May, Swiss announced its partnership with Publicis, and now the first results are on display. A new campaign for the airline's flight schedule plays on the clichés associated with Swiss destinations.

Swiss announced its collaboration with Publicis at the end of May and shortly afterwards awarded the agency its first contract: at the beginning of July, the posters for Euro08 had to be taken down at Zurich, Basel, Geneva and Lugano airports and replaced with a new campaign for the airline's flight schedule. Publicis presented the concept a few days later, from which eleven motifs have now been produced, according to the agency. Each motif shows a destination and tells how often Swiss flies there each week. For the realization, Publicis took up well-known clichés and implemented them in a new way. For example, that the Italians talk more, the French flirt more or that the Germans export more. These national characteristics are always countered with the statement that Swiss flies more.
The new posters are now hanging at the above-mentioned airports. According to the press release, the campaign was realized with stock images due to time constraints.

Last but not least: The Canadian element of surprise

When a journalist gets the chance to chat for a few minutes with a big-name star like Marilyn Manson, Pharrell Williams, or Snoop Dogg, they’re usually expected to act with the utmost seriousness. Canadian host Nardwuar the Human Serviette, however, shows no mercy.

As a journalist, if you get the opportunity to chat for a few minutes with a high-profile star like Marilyn Manson, Pharrell Williams or , you should normally make every effort to behave with the utmost seriousness. You don't want to waste precious interview time or even risk the star suddenly cutting the conversation short. So don't make too much of a fuss, don't make a fuss, don't upset the hierarchy between the star and the questioner. Canadian presenter Nardwuar the human serviette, however, knows no mercy: with a high, annoying voice and a strangely nerdy look, he pounces on his world-famous interview partners with an inane "who are you?". Everyone should first introduce themselves to the Canadian with the tartan cap, the big glasses and the infantile demeanor. And then, when some, such as Blur drummer
The journalist from Vancouver suddenly pulls the aces out of his sleeve after the exchange of trivialities. He then pulls things out of his old briefcase that are closely linked to the artists' life stories: for example, he is handed the original pressing of his first record, then a book about skateboarding and finally a child's doll and can't keep his mouth shut in amazement. At the latest then they tell the human napkin everything it wants to know. Very entertaining.
