Amelie Fried and Ijoma Mangold will succeed Elke Heidenreich as presenters of the new ZDF literature program. The exact concept and the program title have not yet been determined.
Following the noisy departure of Elke Heidenreich, who had a row with her broadcaster after Marcel Reich-Ranicki's television scolding, ZDF has now presented the successors. There are two of them: in future, Amelie Fried and Ijoma Mangold will host the as yet unnamed program. What is already certain is that they will each host a celebrity guest in their literary program in order to "break through the book jungle together". According to a report by the industry service Horizont, the show will focus on works of fiction. However, non-fiction and literature for young people will also be discussed.
Amelie Fried presented the ZDF talk show "Live" in the 1980s, among others. Since 1998, she has hosted the talk show "3 nach 9" on Radio Bremen. Fried herself has written numerous bestselling novels ("Der Mann von nebenan", "Liebes Leid und Lust" and "Die Findelfrau"), almost all of which have been adapted for television.
The second presenter of the new ZDF literature program is Ijoma Mangold. According to ZDF, he is one of the most renowned literary critics of the younger generation. Mangold, born in 1971, has been literary editor of the Süddeutsche Zeitung since 2001 and will move to the features section of Die Zeit in Hamburg from April 2009. He is a jury member of the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize, was a member of the German Book Prize jury in 2007 and held a guest professorship for literary criticism in Göttingen in 2008/2009.
