Last but not least: No curtain for Cash II

When the first issue of *Cash* was published in 2007, it was a major event and was celebrated accordingly in the newspaper. For the free newspaper *Cash*, which was published for the last time on Friday, the discontinuation was merely a footnote.

That was something when the first Cash went under in the summer of 2007. A theatrical farewell, on the front page of the last issue a red, drawn stage curtain with the words: "Goodbye". For the farewell number, the newspaper's best stories since its launch in 1990 were brought out once again. Cash readers were also asked whether they would now switch to Handelszeitung, Bilanz or Stocks. And business people were shown who had refused to continue dealing with the Ringier publication after a critical article. A worthy departure, somehow.
It should be clear to some where this introduction is heading: Nothing of the sort happened with the discontinuation of the free newspaper Cash, which appeared for the last time on Friday. Twenty pages of business information were delivered as usual. On the first page, it was only briefly noted that Cash would now be "fully digital", i.e. on the Cash website. In this regard, page three also spoke of a "world premiere". A little gallows humor at the end? Perhaps, but on the whole, the silent exit of the print product is symptomatic of the general sobriety currently prevalent in the industry.
