Last but not least: Swiss company casts engineers in Vietnam

Why should auditions be reserved for actors, singers and dancers? The agency at the airport probably thought so and invited Vietnamese engineers to a spontaneous casting rather than an assessment center.

Castings are more popular than ever these days. If a role for an actor, a place in a band for a singer or a position as a dancer is up for grabs, this is a particularly quick and easy way to separate the wheat from the chaff. So why shouldn't this selection procedure be transferable to other professions? This is probably what the agency at the airport thought when it was looking for a method to find the smartest development engineers in Vietnam for the software and product development company Antrova. Without further ado, the tried and tested assessment center was swapped for a casting at the elite technical university Hochiminhcitys. Among other things, the agency produced flyers and displays with Albert Einstein on them for the spectacle. Unfortunately, the "Spontaneous Engineer Casting Promotion" could not be followed on television. However, some impressions from Vietnam were captured photographically.

Le Nouvelliste is majority-owned by the Rhône-Média holding company. Following the purchase of several share packages, Lathion now holds around 30 percent of the shares. A total of 60 percent of the shares are in Valaisan hands, 37.5 percent belong to Edipresse.

Basel agency takes over format and label communication from Coop

The Basel-based agency The Whole Media will take over media management for Coop's format and label communications effective July 1, 2009. The food company decided to make the switch due to staff departures at its previous agency, Initiative Media.

Basel-based agency The Whole Media will be responsible for media management of Coop's format and label communications from July 1, 2009. The transfer of all projects from the previous agency Initiative Media to The Whole Media will take place this month. At the beginning of July, more detailed information on planned communication measures will be provided, said Maja Fricker from the management of The Whole Media.
Coop decided to make the change due to personnel changes at the old media agency, said Karin Heliopoulos, Head of Media, Marketing Services, in response to an inquiry from Werbewoche. Both Managing Director Stephan Küng and Executive Board member Oliver Schönfeld had left the Walliseller communications company. As a result of the two departures, it was feared that continuity in the strategy could not be guaranteed, Heliopoulos added.

Sonntagsblick violated privacy with portrait picture from the Internet

Publicly accessible portrait photos published on the Internet may not always be used to illustrate a newspaper report. The Press Council partially upheld a complaint against Sonntagsblick.

The Press Council partially upheld a complaint against Sonntagsblick. In September 2008, the newspaper had reported on children conceived from sperm donations. The article focused on a woman who had published her story and photo on the Internet and had previously been asked whether she wanted to contribute to the article. However, she had expressly declined. Sonntagsblick published the article anyway, sticking to the website and stating that it had used the homepage as a source.
The woman then complained that the text and image had been copied against her will and that the procurement of the information was therefore unfair. Sonntagsblick countered that anyone who publishes their life story on the Internet is presenting themselves to the world public.

    Maintaining proportionality
According to the Declaration of the Duties and Rights of Journalists, obtaining the information from the Internet was not unfair, the Press Council announced on Tuesday. However, proportionality had not been observed, the Press Council stated. The Sonntagsblick has a larger, different audience than the private website dedicated to a specific topic. The newspaper should have refrained from using the image or at least altered it. The photo did not contain any essential information about the article.

AZ-Medien: No trademark protection for "A-Z"

The AZ Media Group is not permitted to register the term «A-Z» as a trademark. The Federal Administrative Court explained in its ruling that the term belongs to the public domain and is not eligible for trademark protection.

The Federal Administrative Court refuses to register the AZ Media Group's trademark for the word "A-Z". According to the judges in Bern, the sign stands for "complete" and is therefore part of the unprotectable public domain. In 2008, the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property (IPI) refused the company's request to register the word sign "A-Z" as a trademark for printed products and other goods or services. The Federal Administrative Court has now rejected the appeal lodged by the media group. The decision from Bern can still be appealed to the Federal Supreme Court within 30 days.
