SRG: Filippo Leutenegger stands for election as "Super Director"

Filippo Leutenegger, a Zurich FDP National Council member and former television editor-in-chief, is planning a comeback at SRG. He is running for the position of «Super Director»—the CEO of the merged radio and television division. In addition, the election of the interim TV chief has been postponed to July 9.

Zurich FDP National Councillor and former TV editor-in-chief Filippo Leutenegger is planning a comeback at SRG. As the Sonntag newspaper writes in its latest edition, he is standing for election as "Super Director" - the CEO of the merged radio and television company. This is a challenging and highly interesting task, Leutenegger told the Sonntagspublikation. He is also said to have signaled his willingness to give up his seat on the National Council. The two offices are not compatible. Leutenegger wants to strengthen radio and television in terms of journalism and make them more efficient.
There is also news regarding the election of the interim head of Swiss Television: the new director will not be elected next Thursday as planned, but on July 9. Sunday also knows the reason for the postponement: the regional council, which originally only wanted to elect the new radio director on June 18, was surprised by Deltenre's resignation last week. In order to avoid having to schedule two election meetings and to avoid violating any regulatory deadlines, the SF and radio directors will now be appointed together in July.

Last but not least: Giezendanner's relentless fight against the SRG

Not everyone is pleased that Ueli Haldimann, the current TV editor-in-chief, is set to become the interim successor to TV Director Ingrid Deltenre. Numerous bilateral meetings took place on the sidelines of the session in Bern, and according to a report in the Sonntagszeitung, about 15 opponents are set to gather in Rothrist on Tuesday—led by SVP National Council member Ulrich Giezendanner.

Not everyone is happy that the current TV editor-in-chief Ueli Haldimann is to become the interim successor to television director Ingrid Deltenre. There were numerous bilateral meetings on the fringes of the session in Bern, and according to a report in the Sonntagszeitung, around 15 people are to meet in Rothrist on Tuesday. The initiator is none other than SVP National Councillor Ulrich Giezendanner. He is said to have confirmed the "coordination meeting", but does not yet want to say who is part of the group and who will play what role. So it's a real secret society. And be careful, he seems to be serious: "The fight against the SRG is on", he is quoted as saying in the Sonntagszeitung. He wants to gather other politicians and private broadcasters around him and trigger an avalanche against the SRG. At least Mr. Giezendanner seems to be aware that he and his resistance fighters will hardly be able to prevent Haldimann's election as interim director of SF. His modest goal: to bring more civic-minded people onto the SRG committees and prevent Haldimann's definitive election...

The Internet platform Twitter is enjoying growing popularity, but has not yet been able to translate this into corresponding profits. Now, U.S. computer giant Dell is helping the up-and-coming web newcomer find a profitable business model. The world's second-largest PC manufacturer has earned more than three million dollars from users who clicked on Dell messages published on Twitter and then bought products from the computer giant.
Three million dollars in two years is just a pleasant sideline for Dell, with sales of more than $12 billion in the first quarter alone. For Twitter, on the other hand, which until now has not been involved in sales like those of Dell, the figures made public on Friday are a great ray of hope, according to experts. The Internet platform could retain from companies in the future a part of their proceeds over Twitter. Twitter does not rule this out for the future. "The company will increasingly strive for profitability," a company spokeswoman said, according to SDA.
Twitter is one of the newest communication services on the Internet, sending messages of up to 140 characters. The number of users increased by more than 1,000 percent last year to 24 million worldwide.

French government sticks to internet blocking law despite criticism

Despite the Constitutional Court's ruling, Nicolas Sarkozy continues to stand by his HADOPI law. Under this law, individuals who are repeatedly accused of illegally downloading movies and music from the Internet can have their Internet service cut off without a court order.

Despite the ruling of the Constitutional Court, Nicolas Sarkozy continues to uphold his HADOPI law (Haute autorité pour la diffusion des oeuvres et la protection des drotis sur Internet). This means that people who are repeatedly accused of illegally downloading films and music from the internet can have their internet connection cut without a court order. In the eyes of the court, this procedure is unconstitutional. The country's highest constitutional court declared the government's previously passed legislation to be unlawful. However, despite this decision, the responsible ministers in Sarkozy's cabinet decided on Thursday evening to pass the controversial law in the next few days - albeit without the criticized passages. According to Netzwoche.ch, the government wants to revise these and adapt them to the requirements of the constitutional judges.
