Twitter allows advertising in short messages

The internet service Twitter will allow advertising in its 140-character messages going forward. The change to the terms of service is being made so that advertising messages can also be sent to the approximately 45 million monthly visitors.

The Internet service Twitter will in future allow advertising in its 140-character messages. One
leaves the door open for advertising, Twitter founder Biz Stone explained on the official Twitter blog on Thursday. The change to the terms of use is being made so that advertising messages can also be sent to the approximately 45 million visitors per month.
On Twitter, users can send an unlimited number of short messages free of charge. Although advertising has proven to be a viable source of revenue for free websites, according to SDA, some experts doubt that this also applies to networks such as Twitter, where Internet users produce content themselves. After all, corporations are likely to be reluctant to promote their brand names with uncontrolled
content.

The Havas subsidiary Euro RSCG has prevailed over TBWA in the final for the Credit Suisse global classic account. DDB, Saatchi & Saatchi and McCann-Erickson had previously been eliminated. The account holder was McCann Erickson, Frankfurt. The London colleagues from McCann Erickson were invited to the presentation competition. According to Wuv.de, only London agencies were allowed to present.
Euro RSCG already managed Credit Suisse's global budget from 2001 to 2004. At that time, the Zurich office was in charge, now it is London. A complete realignment of the communications strategy was the reason for the tender. In future, the media mix is to focus on outdoor and digital media. Everything that is shown on television is to be used efficiently for the target group, for example on Bloomberg TV.

Bund and Tagi in the Federal Palace

The Bund and the Tages-Anzeiger have merged their Federal Palace newsrooms. The aim is to chart a new course for the pièce de résistance of the political daily—domestic politics.

The Bund and the Tages-Anzeiger have merged their editorial offices. This is a new approach to the pièce de résistance of the political daily newspaper, domestic politics, writes the Bund on Friday. Since September 1, a joint team from the Bund and Tages-Anzeiger has been reflecting and commenting on federal politics for both papers.
The Tamedia Board of Directors has opted for this solution. The aim is for the editorial office of the Federal Parliament, which runs under the wing of the Bund in Berne, and the domestic editorial office of the Tages-Anzeiger in Zurich, together with the regional correspondents, to produce domestic pages that are able to interest a readership throughout German-speaking Switzerland beyond the respective core area, the Bund continues.
Patrick Feuz, previously Head of the Domestic Department at the Bund, is the head of the new editorial team. His team, not yet complete, includes Verena Vonarburg and Daniel Friedli - previously Tagi - as well as Markus Brotschi and Christian von Burg - previously Bund.

Ban on telemarketing

The National Council’s decision on the urgent bill to reduce health insurance costs could have economic consequences outside the healthcare sector if the law is ultimately adopted. Article 22, paragraph 1bis, of the federal law, which was passed by a vote of 89 to 87, stipulates: «The payment of insurance commissions in any form and the financing of telemarketing are prohibited.»

At its meeting on September 9, 2009, the National Council decided on amendments to the Federal Health Insurance Act and measures to curb the cost trend. The aim of the package, which was adopted by 113 votes to 58, is to take rapid and effective measures to reduce costs in the healthcare system and thus limit the announced premium increases to an "acceptable level". According to the Swiss Direct Marketing Association (SDV), a decision was lost in the discussion and media coverage of the urgent measures that will lead to economic consequences outside the healthcare sector if the law is definitively adopted.
Art. 22 para. 1bis of the Federal Act, which was adopted by 89 votes to 87, provides for the following:
"The payment of insurance commissions in any form and the financing of telephone advertising are prohibited." This was announced by the Direct Marketing Association in a commentary on the National Council's decision on the bill. According to the National Council's Committee for Social Security and Health, at whose request the article was included in the Federal Council's draft bill, the purpose of this article is to reduce administrative costs in the healthcare sector. According to the SDV, the Commission cites the following argument: the general discussion about bonuses and commissions and the generalization of advertising calls as a "nuisance for the population".
However, the ban on telephone advertising in the proposed blanket form clearly puts one sector at a disadvantage, the SDV continued. Even Federal Councillor Pascal Couchepin spoke of a "restriction of freedom of advertising and freedom of trade" during the debate. He himself described the Commission's proposal as a well-intentioned article, but one that misses the mark.

Debtors examine criminal liability for free newspaper .ch

Following the bankruptcy of the free newspaper .ch, at least one shareholder and several creditors are investigating whether the free newspaper’s board of directors bears criminal liability. The investors and management are accused of promising a long-term commitment and failing to honor it.

Following the bankruptcy of the free newspaper .ch, at least one shareholder and several debtors are considering a
criminal liability of the board of directors of the free newspaper, according to an investigation
of the Schweizer Journalist magazine. According to SDA, the shareholder is primarily concerned with the business conduct of the Board of Directors. Others would simply like to have their money, writes the Swiss
Journalist in its August/September 2009 issue.
The investors and management are accused of having promised a long-term commitment and failing to keep it. In addition, the newly founded company Punkt ch was not provided with sufficient capital. The transition from the old company to the new company took place at the end of 2008 and Punkt ch was entered in the commercial register in January 2009. The free newspaper .ch was discontinued in May "for economic reasons".
Several dozen debtors have registered their claims against Punkt ch, including the news agencies SDA and AP as well as the specialist media publisher Oberauer. Several transport companies and Direct Mail are also demanding money.
According to Schweizer Journalist magazine, the old company Media Punkt has not been spared either: until a few weeks ago, claims of more than CHF 11 million had been received. In brief statements to Schweizer Journalist, the major investors emphasize that they have fulfilled their obligations to the old and new companies.

Google: Payment models proposed for US newspapers

In the debate over the future of the media, Google has proposed a payment system to U.S. publishers that would also allow for the purchase of individual articles. With this concept, the internet company responded to a call from the Newspaper Association of America (NAA) to submit ideas for media business platforms.

In the discussion about the future of the media, Google has proposed a payment system to US publishers that could also be used to pay for the purchase of individual articles. With its concept, the Internet company was responding to a call from the American Newspaper Publishers Association (NAA) for ideas for media business platforms. According to SDA, other contributions came from IBM and Oracle, among others. Google's proposal is particularly interesting as the internet giant is often criticized by the media industry in connection with its news aggregator Google News.
US newspapers are struggling with a sharp decline in advertising revenue and are looking for new business models for the digital age. The industry is currently trying to implement payment models for its content on the Internet. Google wants to have its payment system, which will enable both subscriptions and micro-payments, for example for individual texts, ready next year.

Advertising remains the most important source of revenue
Google remains convinced that advertising will remain the most important source of revenue for news content. However, the text published on the NAA website states that payment models could be an important addition to this.
