The employees affected would have to be retrained and reassigned within the company. Syndicom is particularly critical of the outsourcing decision. By outsourcing ad production to Germany, the NZZ is relying on lower wages in the neighboring country. This is "very bad" for the otherwise so trandition-conscious Swiss media company. Especially because more and more areas of work are being automated as a result of advancing digitization, such as internal image processing in prepress now, companies have a special responsibility to their staff, he said. The companies would have to train and retrain those affected in good time and work out new career prospects with them. The NZZ, as a socio-politically responsible media company, has a particular obligation in this regard. The NZZ Group had announced on Thursday that it would close a site for image processing and outsource ad production to a third-party provider in Germany (Werbewoche.ch reported). A total of 15 employees will lose their jobs. (SDA)
