Swiss Magazine on the rise

Inflight magazines Although the national airline Swiss is canceling more flights, its own in-flight magazine is increasing its circulation. The April issue of Swiss Magazine was published with a circulation of 130000 copies. That is 30000 more than in previous months. It also has 30 more pages. The double issues even reach the proud number of 180,000 copies. Thus the edition, which sank in the letzen half year continuously, lies even still more highly than one year ago with the maiden flight of the Inflight magazine. The reason for the seemingly anti-cyclical increase in circulation is that since April, Swiss has not published a separate entertainment guide (radio and TV programs on board). This is now integrated into the Swiss Magazine, which means that passengers pick it up more often. As a result, the magazine has to be replaced much more frequently.
Despite increases in circulation and pickup, ad prices are not rising in tandem as reach continues to decline. "We are also struggling," says Roger D. Müller, Managing Director of the independent agency Swiss Inflight Media, which markets ads and advertising opportunities on on-board items exclusively for Swiss. After all, last year the magazine was still in the black, but this year they are likely to turn red, according to Müller. A small consolation remains: It's hardly the quality that's to blame, since Swiss Magazine was named best German-language customer magazine in the Best of Corporate Publishing competition in the tourism and lifestyle industry group.
