SRG cancels expense allowance

SRG has eliminated the flat-rate expense allowance of just over 1,600 francs per year for its employees. According to the Sonntagszeitung, the staff’s enthusiasm for this move is limited.

Since the beginning of the year, SRG employees have had to account for their small expenses individually. As the Sonntagszeitung writes, there is "thick air" among TV and radio staff because of this. According to Stephan Ruppen of the Swiss Syndicate of Media Workers (SSM), the union of TV and radio employees has received numerous complaints and inquiries about this, and the calls are piling up.

Recently, for example, 32 francs are reimbursed for external meals and ten francs for breakfast. No expenses may be claimed for business trips by SRF employees to other SRG locations. Early and late workers are reimbursed a maximum of 50 francs for cab fares or 28 francs for mileage allowance per shift. According to the Sonntagszeitung, these regulations apply to all employees - from sound technicians to prominent figureheads.

The SSM union is now criticizing the fact that although employees with high expenses may benefit from the change, those who cause little expense and usually work in the same place will have to reckon with a "hidden wage loss". According to Ruppen, the flat-rate expense allowance was a salary component for many employees. The SSM is therefore seeking a discussion with the SRG, which, at the request of the Sonntagszeitung, is "ready for constructive talks" at any time.
