Somedia and Tamedia launch new newspaper in the See-Gaster region of St. Gallen
Somedia and Tamedia are merging two of their newspapers into a new publication called the Linth-Zeitung. The Linth-Zeitung will be published for the first time on October 1. It is still unclear how many jobs will be cut.

From October 1, the Obersee edition of the Zürichsee-Zeitung and the Gaster & See edition of Südostschweiz will become the new Linth-Zeitung. It will report on politics, business, society and sport from the St. Gallen constituency of See-Gaster. The independent editorial team is based in Uznach and Rapperswil-Jona. Journalists from the former editorial offices of Südostschweiz and Zürichsee-Zeitung will work for the Linth-Zeitung. Urs Zweifel, currently head of the Gaster & See regional editorial office of Südostschweiz, will take over as editor-in-chief. The Linth-Zeitung will obtain its supra-regional cover from Südostschweiz and will also receive content, particularly on the canton of Zurich, from the Zürichsee-Zeitung.
The new daily newspaper will be published by a joint subsidiary of the media companies Somedia and Tamedia. Somedia will hold 51 percent of the company based in Rapperswil-Jona, Tamedia 49 percent.
The Obersee edition of the Zürichsee-Zeitung and the See & Gaster edition of the Südostschweiz will appear for the last time on September 29. From October 1, readers of both newspapers will automatically receive the Linth-Zeitung, which will be published with a circulation of around 10,000 copies. The two large-circulation newspapers, which are currently published once a week, will be transferred to the large-circulation Linth-Zeitung, which will also be published weekly on Tuesdays.
Of the 15 journalists currently working for one of the two newspapers, all are to be kept on. They will either be kept on at the new newspaper or at one of the two publishers, said Thomas Kundert, Managing Director of Somedia, when asked by Keystone-SDA. "We hope that this can be done without redundancies." (pd/SDA/hae)
