Schawinski to exonerate Weltwoche in court

One week after the end of the cult show «Roger gegen Roger», research by the Sonntagszeitung reveals that Schawinski is to testify in court against his friend Professor Sarasin in order to exonerate Weltwoche.

The astonishment about the sudden end of the hit talk show "Roger gegen Roger" was big last week. Although Schawinski reacted in a strikingly emotional way to Köppel's statements on refugee policy in the last show, minor éclat and spite have been the order of the day on the show in recent years. Probably one of the many reasons that have made the show so popular and beloved. Schawinski buried the format on the grounds that Köppel was increasingly using the show for his personal election propaganda instead of appearing as a journalist. "Politician and journalist at the same time - that doesn't work at all in my opinion," the Radio 1 boss said in the View interview.

The Sonntagszeitung now reveals that Köppel's candidacy for the National Council may not have been the only reason for the sudden cancellation. Two weeks before the show went off the air, Schawinski had learned that Köppel wanted to summon him as a witness in a court case. The explosive fact is that the radio pioneer is to testify against his own friend, Zurich history professor Philipp Sarasin, and thus protect Weltwoche from his lawsuit. Weltwoche accused Sarasin of having concealed his love affair with the candidate Svenja Goltermann as a member of the appointment committee. Sarasin, on the other hand, rejected the accusations - on the grounds that the relationship had only begun three years after the conclusion of the appeals process. In turn, he filed a criminal complaint for defamation against the author and is suing the publisher and author for personal injury.

According to Sunday newspaper several sources report, Schawinski is said to have then revealed to Köppel on the sidelines of a broadcast that it was common knowledge that the relationship had already existed before the appeal proceedings were concluded. With this statement, he is now supposed to exonerate Weltwoche. Schawinski, on the other hand, denied to the newspaper that he had made such a statement. This insinuation only underlines "the miserable source situation" for Köppel's "campaign against Philipp Sarasin and Svenja Goltermann". Moreover, Köppel's "unprecedented action" has nothing to do with the communicated reasons for the end of the program. (hae)
