Radio 1 outsources news production and cuts six jobs

Roger Schawinski's radio station will soon be sourcing its news bulletins from CH Media; the station is unable to distinguish itself with its current bulletins, and it is also lacking advertising revenue. This will also result in layoffs.

Radio 1 will no longer produce its own news bulletins from spring 2024. Roger Schawinski's station will source these from the news team at CH-Media-Radios. Six permanent and part-time employees will lose their jobs in Zurich as a result.

Radio stations can no longer make as big a name for themselves with news bulletins as they used to, said Radio 1 boss Schawinski. Media consumption has changed radically with the many current Internet offerings with their push notifications.

According to Schawinski, the production costs for the news bulletins can no longer be refinanced due to the sharp drop in income from national radio advertising. The collaboration will allow Radio 1 to concentrate on its own relevant program content, the 78-year-old radio producer is quoted as saying.

His radio makes the difference "with the music, the moderation, the speech and the long word broadcasts". According to the press release, the CH-Media-Radio news team produces news for 16 private radio stations. Twelve of these belong to the CH-Media Group, four are third-party stations like Radio 1.
