Press Concentration in the Canton of Schwyz
The Neue Luzerner Zeitung is discontinuing its Schwyz regional edition and will now join forces with its competitor, the Bote der Urschweiz. Eight employees will be affected by the newspaper's closure.
The closure of the Neue Schwyzer Zeitung at the end of 2013 marks the end of around 137 years of competition with the much higher-circulation Boten der Urschweiz. The difference in size between the newspapers was too great in the long term, writes Editor-in-Chief Thomas Bornhauser in the last issue. Five of the former employees will move to other editorial offices after the end of the company, one employee will take early retirement and two others will change careers.
New cooperation partner for the messenger
Publisher Hugo Triner's Bote appeared in a new layout for the first time on Friday. The layout and typeface were adapted to the new cooperation partner Neue Luzerner Zeitung, which belongs to the NZZ Group. Previously, the Bote had worked for 16 years with the Südostschweiz publishing group in Chur, which also owns Werbewoche.
Change at the top of the editorial team
Editor-in-chief Josias Clavadetscher will retire in summer 2014. His successor will be the current head of politics at the Blick Group, Jürg Auf der Maur. The doctor of history from Goldau was editor-in-chief of the Bote der Urschweiz from 1993 to 2000, before moving to the Neue Luzerner Zeitung and later to Blick.
