Öffentlichkeitsgesetz.ch is the "best quality initiative in Swiss journalism"

The association Öffentlichkeitsgesetz.ch has been awarded the 6th Media Award 2011 by the association Qualität im Journalismus. This award recognizes a young initiative by journalists who are committed to promoting the principle of public access to information in Switzerland.

The award is presented every other year for the "best quality initiative in Swiss journalism". According to the press release, the nine-member jury was primarily inspired by the internet platform Oeffentlichkeitsgesetz.ch convince. Applications to federal agencies and cantonal administrations can be formulated there with just a few mouse clicks. The website is currently being translated into French. As soon as funding is secured, it will also be available in English.

The association Öffentlichkeitsgesetz.ch aims to promote a change in awareness among the media and the administration, as the press release explains further. In its statutes, it has set itself the goal of making the Publicity Act "an effective working tool for media professionals". The board consists of president Martin Stoll (Sonntagszeitung), vice-presidents Denis Masmejean (Le Temps) and Hansjürg Zumstein (Schweizer Fernsehen) as well as Vera Beutler ("Plädoyer - Magazin für Recht und Politik"), Catherine Boss (Sonntagszeitung), Thomas Knellwolf (Tages-Anzeiger and "Der Bund") and Titus Plattner (Le Matin Dimanche). The board works on a voluntary basis. As a non-profit, publisher-independent association, Öffentlichkeitsgesetz.ch has no commercial purpose. The development of the Internet platform was financed by the media company Tamedia and implemented by the editorial department of the Sonntagszeitung. The Conference of Editors-in-Chief and the Association of Federal House Journalists (VBJ) have taken over the patronage. In addition to Tamedia, it is financially supported by the Gottlieb and Hans Vogt Foundation, Konsumenteninfo and the Oertli Foundation. However, the association operates autonomously and independently. Only full-time journalists can become active members.

The award for the best general structural quality initiative went to the project for the Radio education and training in an intercultural context (Rawik).
