My Newspaper: Swiss Post launches personal daily newspaper

Swiss Post is launching My Newspaper, the first personalizable daily newspaper in Switzerland. To this end, it is working with various publishers who are making the content of their newspaper titles available.

In the process, Swiss Post will handle the printing and delivery of individual newspapers to subscribers, the company said in a statement Monday. The subscribers put on Post.ch/mynewspaper put together their own personal newspaper. They select the content from various national and international newspapers that is tailored to their interests - for example, the sports section from newspaper A, the politics section from newspaper B, and the local section from newspaper C. The subscribers also enjoy the benefits of a printed newspaper. At the same time, subscribers enjoy the benefits of a printed newspaper: Swiss Post delivers their personal newspaper to their home on the day after they place their order, either in printed form with the daily delivery service or to their mailbox early in the morning. Alternatively, My Newspaper can also be subscribed to worldwide in electronic form as an e-paper.

Printed and electronic

Swiss Post is now testing My Newspaper on the market for a year. As part of this test, the printed version is available in the Zurich, Basel, Bern, Lucerne and Aarau regions. The e-paper can be ordered worldwide and is suitable for tablet PCs such as the iPad and the e-reader. There are various subscriptions on offer, which differ in scope and duration. In print, My Newspaper is available from CHF 60 per month, and electronically from CHF 21 per month. The market test is intended to show how great the demand is for a printed personalizable daily newspaper at the subscription prices on offer.

Close cooperation with publishing houses

My Newspaper is based on close cooperation with publishers who make the contents of their newspaper titles available in their original form. Currently, almost a dozen different publishers from Switzerland and abroad are participating in the project. Swiss Post is aiming for the broadest possible selection of titles and will continue to expand the offering. Negotiations are currently underway with the Tamedia publishing house, said a Swiss Post spokesperson. Newspapers from French-speaking Switzerland and Ticino will also be added to the offering. The first personalizable newspaper on the Swiss market is not to be understood as competition to existing newspaper titles. Rather, it offers publishers the opportunity to increase the reach of their titles and attract new readers. For its part, Swiss Post is contributing its expertise as a logistics provider with My Newspaper and managing the interface between publishers and readers.

Printing and shipping by mail

Using software from the Lucerne-based company Previon, the newspaper content is compiled into a file according to subscribers' orders and sent to Swiss Post. Overnight, the individual newspapers are digitally printed on a printing press at the Härkingen mail center and dispatched from there.
