City of Zurich to use interactive city maps from autumn - Clear Channel markets them
From the fall, the city of Zurich will be introducing digital city maps, known as "eCity maps", thus taking a further step towards becoming a smart city. The interactive city maps will replace the old, analog steles and generate additional revenue for Zurich thanks to digital advertising.

The first "eCityplan" will be set up in a test phase at Paradeplatz from October, the city council announced on Thursday. 15 more will follow from January 2019 at selected and highly frequented locations. The city will incur one-off costs of around CHF 560,000 for the structural preparation of the installations; the steles will remain the property of the tenant. The total of 16 "eCity maps" are operated via a touchscreen and have several maps that make it easier to find your way around the city. They also provide information on events, culture and public transport.
The city has high hopes for the digital city maps, especially for tourism: they are multilingual, offer public Wi-Fi and the content can be updated quickly.
Digital advertising on the back
On the reverse side, the city maps will be equipped with digital advertising systems. This will allow the city to expand its range of digital advertising systems, continue to actively shape the digitalization of the advertising market and generate additional revenue, the statement continues. Clear Channel Switzerland has been awarded the contract until 2023 and will pay just under CHF 550,000 per year. It already operates the city's analog and digital advertising spaces on public land and has experience with digital city maps.
APG|SGA did not participate in the tender (Werbewoche.ch reported). One of the company's complaints was that the city prohibited the use of moving images. (hae/SDA)
