Paid VAT will be refunded

Anyone who has already paid the bill for the Billag radio and television reception fees will receive a refund of the VAT. The refunds amount to a total of CHF 15 million.

As a result of the Federal Supreme Court ruling of April 13, 2015, radio and television reception fees are no longer subject to VAT (Werbewoche.ch reported). For this reason, VAT will be refunded to people who have already paid their bill for the period from April 2015. Billag will implement the decision of the Federal Office of Communications (OFCOM). The corresponding fee payers will have the amount they have overpaid deducted from their next bill. They will therefore not be at a disadvantage compared to households and companies that receive a bill without VAT in May, according to a statement issued on Tuesday.

The amounts to be refunded to fee payers range from 95 centimes to 10.35 francs. In total, Billag has to refund value-added tax of CHF 15 million, as Radio Top has learned. The amounts will be deducted from the next bill of the affected fee payers.
