Complaint by Christian Lüscher upheld
The Press Council has partially upheld a complaint filed by Christian Lüscher, a Liberal Party member of the National Council from Geneva, against Le Temps. The article’s headline, «Christian Lüscher Manipulates Housing Laws,» violated the duty to report the truth.
In addition, the title and lead contradict the actual article, the Press Council said in a statement on Friday. The exaggeration in the title is only justified if it is quickly differentiated in the following text. This was not the case in the present article.
The newspaper Le Temps had therefore not fully respected its duty to tell the truth. Further accusations from the Geneva National Council, according to which the newspaper had suppressed important information and made anonymous accusations, were judged by the Press Council to be unjustified.
