Bern Media Awards 2011: Two radio and one TV journalist honored

The Bern Foundation for Radio and Television is awarding this year's media prizes to two radio journalists and one TV journalist. The grand prize goes to Bern-based radio journalist Toni Koller for a report on the differences in radio culture between German-speaking and French-speaking Switzerland.

Koller made a structural comparison of French and German-language SRG radio broadcasts in a report entitled "Quasselradio versus Dideldum" in the Kontext program on Radio DRS 2 on 9 March. The jury of the Bern Media Prize judged this contribution to be a lively and exciting characterization. This was announced by the Bern Foundation for Radio and Television.

This year's radio prize goes to DRS-Inland editor Peter Maurer for a report on the Bernese pastor, politician and writer Klaus Schädelin. The prize for the best daily news report goes to French-speaking Swiss television journalist Pierre Nebel. He reported on the presentation of the Swiss Music Awards to the rapper Stress in an exciting and informative way on the Tagesschau of French-speaking Swiss television.

The Bernese Foundation for Radio and Television has been in existence for 30 years and has been awarding prizes for broadcasts that deal with topics from the cantons of Bern, Fribourg and Valais in particular quality or make an important contribution to understanding between Welsch and German for just as long. In its anniversary year, it placed particular emphasis on the latter aspect. This year, it is therefore also awarding two sponsorship prizes of CHF 1,000 each to the bilingual editorial teams of the Canal 3 radio station and the local television station Tele Bielingue in Biel.

The prizes were awarded on Thursday afternoon in Bern.
