World Press Photo 2011 again in Zurich
The World Press Photo of the Year 2010 was announced today in Amsterdam. The winner is the South African Jodi Bieber with her portrait of the mutilated Afghan girl Bibi Aisha. Keystone will present the World Press Photo 11 exhibition from May 13 to June 5, 2011 at the Papiersaal in Sihlcity/Zurich.
The World Press Photo of the Year 2010 was taken by South African Jodi Bieber, previously the winner of eight World Press Photo Awards. The winning image, produced for Time magazine, shows 18-year-old mutilated Bibi Aisha from Oruzgan province, Afghanistan. She fled her violent husband and was punished for it with facial mutilation.
Bieber's image also won first prize in the "Portraits Singles" category. The international 19-member jury awarded prizes to the best works in 9 categories from 108,059 proposals submitted from 125 countries. Compared to last year, about 6 percent more photographs were received, while the number of participating photographers dropped slightly by 3 percent. This writes Keystone in a statement.
The traveling exhibition with the award-winning works will be shown in around 100 cities in 45 countries worldwide. Following the successful exhibitions in 2007 - 2009, Keystone's Leading Partners Canon and Baumann & Cie, Banquiers and the media partners personally and - a new addition - NZZ am Sonntag are once again bringing the World Press Photo exhibition to Zurich - as one of the first stops on the worldwide tour.
