UPC Cablecom: Basic encryption lifted
All households served by UPC Cablecom now have free access to digital television. This is because the cable network operator lifted the basic encryption on Wednesday.
In addition, UPC Cablecom is now also making an Internet connection with 2 Mbit/s available to cable connection customers who do not yet have an Internet subscription. This was announced by the cable network operator in a press release on Wednesday. The "Mini" offer has also been significantly upgraded: more than 100,000 subscribers now have 70 instead of 55 TV channels to choose from and also benefit from various additional functions.
On October 16, 2012, Cablecom announced that it would remove basic encryption for digital television as of January 1, 2013 (Werbewoche.ch reported). As the technical preparations have now progressed faster than planned, the new service is being introduced with immediate effect, the cable network operator continued in the press release. This means that all 1.8 million households now have access to the new basic digital service.
