Salt no longer advertises Swiss Pass subscription because of SBB

With the exception of the spacing between the words, two companies chose the same name: SBB and Salt. Because SBB calls its new chip card SwissPass, the Salt subscription called Swiss Pass was a thorn in its side. Salt received mail from SBB at the beginning of June.

In the letter, Salt was "politely asked to no longer use the name Swiss Pass in its communications", said SBB spokeswoman Franziska Frey. She confirmed a report in the Südostschweiz newspaper on Saturday to the SDA news agency. With the name change, Salt has introduced flat-rate subscriptions with the name component Pass: the Young Pass, the Senior Pass - and the Swiss Pass. However, SBB has registered the name SwissPass (without a space between the words) for its new red chip card, as a glance at the trademark register shows. Since August 1, all SBB customers who buy or renew a GA or Half-Fare travelcard automatically receive this new chip card. According to Salt, there is "absolutely no connection" between the name and the fact that Salt is not currently advertising the product online. This was announced by a company spokeswoman on Saturday. She explained to Südostschweiz that Salt had offered the offer for sale online during the launch phase. The offer is still available: in retail outlets and via customer service. (SDA)
