New newspaper by and for young people

MEDIA With the new youth newspaper "NZZ Toolbox", the NZZ is launching a journalistic format specifically tailored to the needs of young people for the first time. The first issue is all about big data.On May 30, 2015, the youth newspaper of the NZZ Group will be published. NZZ Toolbox" is aimed at a readership between the ages of 15 and 19, and the newspaper is written by people of the same age. After NZZ.at, "NZZ Geschichte" and NZZ Selekt, "NZZ Toolbox" is already the fourth new product that the NZZ is launching this year. "NZZ Toolbox" is included at least four times a year in the Saturday edition of the "Neue Zürcher Zeitung" and is designed to introduce a young target group to the NZZ world. Due to an exclusive partnership with the Zurich Banking Association Foundation, "NZZ Toolbox" is free of advertising.Focus topics"NZZ Toolbox" takes up a central point of criticism from the readership, because existing journalistic offerings are not clear enough for young readers and often presuppose too much knowledge. The sees itself as a toolbox that equips its readers with the information they need to have a say in important topics in the fields of politics, economics, ecology, society and culture, and to follow them up. Each issue is therefore devoted to a key topic. The editorial team explains the most important terms, backgrounds and players involved and prepares the topic journalistically with questions relevant to the target group.Big Data in a fresh layoutThe first issue of the new youth supplement is dedicated to the topic of Big Data. The young journalists took an open-minded look at the various facets of Big Data. Experienced NZZ editors accompanied and supported them in the research and implementation of the articles. The result: research on the value of personal online profiles in the digital age, an article on the work that normal users take away from big companies, a Whatsapp interview with a young fiber-optic cable carrier, a graphic on the world's largest data centers, and much more.
