New Basel interest group for the creative industries founded

A new bottom-up initiative aims to raise the profile of Basel's creative industries.

Basel enjoys a high reputation among those interested in culture. The city is an attractive location for players in all creative fields. Unfortunately, however, the local creative industries lack cross-sector networking, visibility and appreciation. The new association KreaB (Verband der Kreativwirtschaft Basel) serves as a mouthpiece for the sector, represents the interests of Basel's creative industries in a spirit of solidarity, networks sectors and players and aims to make their creative achievements from Basel visible.

Basel is the new Berlin, postulated urban developer Thomas Kessler three years ago. At that time, the government had discovered the creative industries as a new economic sector worthy of support in the city and provided funding for the 13 sub-sectors of the creative industries accordingly. Today, little remains of the euphoria of that time, except that the players in the 13 sub-sectors of the creative industries (music industry, book market, art market, film industry, broadcasting industry, performing arts, design industry, architecture market, advertising market, software/games industry, arts and crafts, press market, phonographic market) still want a suitable representation of their interests. Ten representatives from the various creative industries founded KreaB, the interest group for Basel's creative industries, in January 2016. KreaB sees itself as a bottom-up initiative, i.e. initiated by the players themselves, and primarily aims to strengthen the visibility, networking, market opportunities and promotion of the players in Basel and the surrounding area.
