After reprimand: Granini stops advertising with "CO2-neutral" logo
Following a warning from the consumer protection organization Foodwatch, beverage manufacturer Eckes-Granini is discontinuing the use of the «CO2-neutral» logo in its advertising.

As Foodwatch announced on Friday, the company issued a corresponding cease-and-desist declaration to the organization in order to prevent a lawsuit. However, Granini reserves the right to remove all existing packaging with the imprint until the end of July so that it does not have to destroy them.
In its warning letter, Foodwatch had accused Granini of using environmental projects to offset only a fraction of the greenhouse gas emissions generated in the production of a juice - namely only 6.9 percent. According to the complaint, the advertising is a self-designed logo printed on the packaging of juices, nectars or fruit juice drinks.
Already in August waiver decided
In the cease-and-desist letter, Granini pointed out that it had already decided in August last year to "no longer communicate CO2/climate neutrality on its products". Nevertheless the enterprise strives also in the future for a climatic neutrality, with which emissions are compensated by comprehensible climatic projects.
Foodwatch welcomed the declaration of discontinuance. However, there are many more products in supermarkets that are "advertised with misleading climate and environmental claims." Foodwatch could not "warn off every single consumer deception." Instead, the German government must lobby Brussels for a legal ban on misleading climate advertising on food products, the organization demanded. (SDA)
