Museum of Communication prepares for upcoming challenges
The Museum of Communication in Bern can look back on a successful 2019. The institution welcomed 115,664 visitors last year, an increase of about 11,000 people compared to the previous year.

Museum director Jacqueline Strauss said she was very pleased with the number of visitors and with the prestigious 2019 Council of Europe Museum Prize that the institution was able to receive.
The museum is currently running an exhibition on inhibitions. In the next major temporary exhibition starting in the fall of 2020, the museum will focus on the new possibilities of digitization, artificial intelligence and biotechnology. The focus will be on topics such as self-optimization and reinvention.
Digital strategy
It is not only in the exhibitions that the house is concerned with digital development. Last year, for example, those responsible developed a digital strategy to prepare for future challenges.
The first projects have already been launched. For example, the "Sounds of Silence" exhibition is being reconstructed as a virtual reality format. Together with a National Fund project, the museum has also created an interactive teaching aid on Big Data.
Save photos from decay
Another task for the museum in the coming years will be to digitize the photo collection. Today, the collection's online database contains around 150,000 entries. Now 500,000 photos are to be added to this.
The images are increasingly threatened by decay, the museum writes in its statement. The photo digitization should be completed in ten years. (SDA)
